Dalewood Fromage

Dalewood Fromage We focus on regenerative farming to produce artisanal farmstead cheese from a pasture-fed Jersey herd

Dalewood Fromage is an artisanal farmstead operation that produces cheese from 100% Jersey milk from its own stud registered herd of Jersey cows! No artificial fertilizers, insecticides or weed-killers are used in our pastures, and Dalewood cows are never given hormones to increase growth or milk production, and also don’t receive unnecessary antibiotics. Our online shop, Kaas Club, is a destinati

on cheese, dairy and cheese accessory outlet, stocking a range of speciality knives, bakers, boards, crackers, and preserves (link in bio)

The Dalewood Cheesery Shop on the farm stocks Dalewood's cheeses and an assortment of cheese knives, rustic cheese boards, jams and preserves. The Cheesery Shop is open during the week from Monday to Friday from 09:00 - 16:00 and on Saturdays (November to April only) from 10:00 - 15:00. The Cheesery Shop is closed on Sundays, Public Holidays and Easter Weekend.

Lucerne (Medicago sativa), often called alfalfa, is one of the plants that colours our pastures purple in summer. It’s a deep-rooted legume that naturally fixes nitrogen in the soil, improving soil fertility while producing highly nutritious forage for our cows🪻

The word “farm” is often romanticised, but real farming is consistency, skill and care repeated daily. Today we acknowledge our agricultural team, the people who do the unseen work that makes everything else possible.

The Wineland Camembert is unique to Dalewood. Developed by Rob Visser after studying dairy technology and spending time in France, it was designed to be ready to eat - smooth and creamy throughout, with no chalky centre. Inspired by the magic and romance of the vineyards, pairing easily with wine and reflecting the region in which we farm.

In comparison, our Traditional Camembert is made the classic French style. It needs time to ripen, softening from the outside in. With age it changes from having a chalky centre to a smoother, softer texture.

Our Wineland range is available in 65g, 100g, an oval 150g and a 250g round
Our Traditional Camembert range is available in 125g and 250g rounds

Alongside Rob Visser, Petrina Visser founded Dalewood Fromage.

With a background in the wine industry and marketing, she has been the steady force behind Dalewood’s values, voice, and positioning for over 25 years. As the business has grown, she has protected the integrity of true farmstead, artisanal cheesemaking. Her discipline, attention to detail, diligence, taste and flair has built Dalewood’s distinctive and enduring position in the market.

Petrina is also the creative behind our Cheesery Shop on the farm, where you’ll often find her on weekends, welcoming guests with her empathy, sharp instinct, unmistakable laugh and generous spirit.

Pictured with her is Tracey, her right-hand partner in marketing and PR for the past eleven years, and a loved familiar face to all who visit the shop.

The phrase “Made in the pastures” has for a long time appeared on all of our packaging. Let’s speak about this and the concept of provenance.

Provenance refers to the place of origin of something, and the ability to trace it back to its source. It describes the specific region, environmental factors, traditional methods and local raw materials used to create a product. The emphasis being on how these qualities uniquely determine product character, quality, and authenticity.

At Dalewood, our cheese is not only handmade using traditional tools and methods, it is made exclusively from the milk of our own Jersey cows, raised on our own regeneratively farmed pastures. We do not supplement with off-farm milk. Every wheel can be traced back to the land it came from, and this unique expression of texture and flavour is what makes us extremely proud.

Our award winning Jersey herd has been bred on the farm for optimum health over the last 50 years. We have a single closed herd which means that we don’t buy in any cows and breed all of our own animals to ensure strong genetics and wellbeing 🌱

The people behind the awards !

At the 37th World Cheese Awards in Bern, Switzerland, Dalewood was named among the Top 110 cheeses in the world, with two Super Golds and a Gold. This along with our very own Nellie Fisher winning Best Female Cheesemaker for our Boland.

Today, we’re celebrating the teams who stand behind these certificates. The production, dairy, agriculture, packaging and dispatch teams, management and every steady hand in between.

These certificates begin in the pastures, in the dairy, and in the quiet daily work of people who care deeply about what they do.

To our entire Dalewood team, and to our Jersey cows, we thank you. This recognition belongs to all of you.

In November 2025, Nellie Fischer was awarded Best Female Cheesemaker at the 37th World Cheese Awards in Bern, Switzerland – one of the greatest honours in our industry. We’re still pinching ourselves !

This moment captures Nellie opening the trophy for the first time, surrounded by her production teams who make the work possible.

With huge thanks again to and for sponsoring the award and for championing female cheesemakers worldwide.
