❤️🎂 A LITTLE REMINDER ABOUT HOME-BAKED CAKE PRICING 🎂❤️
After years of hearing comments about the price of home-baked cakes, I think it’s worth gently reminding ourselves what actually goes into that price — especially with the rising cost of food, fuel and everyday essentials.
When you order from a home baker, you’re not just paying for flour, eggs, butter and icing.
You’re paying for:
🎂 Quality ingredients
🎨 Creativity and decoration
📦 Packaging, boards and supplies
⚡ Electricity and equipment
⛽ Fuel and travel
🧼 Cleaning and preparation
⏰ And most importantly — TIME
There are hours spent planning, shopping, baking, decorating, assembling, cleaning and making sure every detail is right. And behind that is years of practice, skill and experience.
A cake is not simply ingredients with icing on top. ❤️
It’s a small business, and just like any profession, the baker’s time, skill and expertise have value.
We’re also incredibly lucky to have so many talented home bakers, restaurants and small businesses in our communities. There is room for everyone! ❤️ Many bakers actually support and refer customers to one another when they can’t take an order — because one baker’s success doesn’t have to mean another’s loss. 🤝
Of course, everyone has a budget, and not every cake will suit every occasion — and that’s completely okay.
But before saying a cake is “too expensive”, remember what you’re actually paying for:
Ingredients + overheads + skill + creativity + experience + hours of work + care and passion. ❤️
So when you buy from a home baker, you’re not just buying a cake.
You’re supporting someone’s small business, time, talent and love for their craft. 🎂❤️
