Has someone told you it's time to move on?

People mean well. They want you to be okay. But grief doesn't follow anyone else's timetable. A friend often said it is God who heals.

From My Slice of Heaven:

"Your grief is the measure of your love. You are allowed to take your time."

If this is you, I wrote this book for you. If you know a mother who needs to hear it, please share it with her.

I never went to baking school.

When I started, nobody paid me. I bought my own equipment and baked for fun.

But when I started getting traction, I accepted orders with no clue what to do, and I promised myself I would learn. I would look at the order, look at the ingredients, and pray: "Lord, I took this order. You have to help me."

And He did.

Some nights I worked until two or three in the morning, with worship playing and Scripture on my mind. The kitchen became my refuge.

From My Slice of Heaven:

"I thought I was escaping into baking. God was meeting me there."

Where is God meeting you in your ordinary work?

From the outside, my ten years in business may have looked like a woman going in circles.

Inside, the Lord was turning my whole life around.

In the season just before I closed my bakery, I learned this: a business cannot grow beyond its owner. If the owner is still on a journey, the business cannot excel beyond where she is.

So stop and look at yourself, not at everybody else. Ask:
What am I doing?
How did this start?
How do I want it to end?

On the days you're discouraged in the middle of it, remember: the Lord is carrying you through this season, and the next one will look different.

Every ceiling you reach becomes the floor of your next season.

You may feel you have not arrived. But the Lord has deposited something inside you. Every one of us has something to give.

To the mother who felt nothing.

After I lost my son, I sat on the edge of my bed and felt a warmth wrap around me. I call it my warm hug from heaven.

But I know not every grieving mother feels that. Some of you sat in that same place and felt only cold and silence.

This is what I wrote for you in My Slice of Heaven:

"The absence of a feeling is not the absence of God. His nearness is a promise, not a sensation."

He was just as near to you in your room as He was to me in mine.

If you know a mother who needs this today, please send it to her.

Mondays are my Sabbath

It started in a season when I looked fine on the outside and was finished on the inside. Serving, teaching, baking, running a business. Full of words, and empty of rest.

From My Slice of Heaven:

"That is also when I began resting on Mondays as my Sabbath. One day a week of doing absolutely nothing significant, and I mean absolutely nothing. It brought a calm into my life I had not known was possible."

What would it look like for you to stop for one day this week?

“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

John 6:35 (KJV)

Some seasons empty us completely.

The business closes.

The plans fall apart.

The arms are empty.

And we find ourselves wondering what is left.

Jesus does not offer us a recipe for getting it all back.

He offers us Himself.

Maybe that is the invitation today.

Not to fix everything.

Not to understand everything.

Just to come.

A question to sit with:

What are you hungry for that only He can fill?

THE KITCHEN

At the back of My Slice of Heaven, you will find something very close to my heart:

The Slice of Heaven Kitchen.

Recipes from my years of baking.

But each recipe comes with something extra.

A little "While You Wait..." moment.

Something to reflect on while your bake is in the oven.

Because I have learned that waiting is not wasted time.

Sometimes waiting is where God does some of His deepest work in us.

So tell me:

Which would you bake first?

Something sweet?

Or something for the whole family?

THE BREAD ON THE COVER

People keep asking me about the bread on the cover.

So here is the truth:

I baked cakes, not bread.

The loaf on the cover isn't mine.

It points to Jesus — the Bread of Life.

And then there is the table.

And the empty chair.

Together, they carry one simple invitation:

Come sit at my table.

That is what I hope this book feels like.

An invitation to sit.

To rest.

To remember.

And to be fed — not just by what is on the table, but by the One who meets us there.

My Slice of Heaven, 30 October.

This book is for the mother who has buried a child.

Before birth.

As a toddler.

As a teenager.

As a grown son or daughter.

If that is you, I wrote some of these pages with you in mind.

You will not find quick answers here.

You will find a seat at the table.

A story that knows something of your grief.

And room to bring that grief to the Father.

I know that some things cannot be explained away with a Bible verse or a well-meaning answer.

Sometimes we simply need somewhere safe to sit.

My Slice of Heaven releases on 30 October.

For ten years, I ran Hadasha Cakes & Catering.

I baked through midnight hours, delivered on weekends, and served my clients with all diligence. I smiled at wedding tables, birthday tables, and all the beautiful celebrations in between.

Then, in June this year, I closed the bakery.

At the time, I knew I was closing a business.

What I didn't know was how much God had been doing in me through those ten years.

The business had been about cakes and catering.

But God was doing something deeper.

My Slice of Heaven is the story of that work, told through my own eyes.

It arrives on 30 October.
