The garden is officially waking up, and so are the hardest workers in the neighborhood! 🐝🌸

Happy 1st of Spring from all of us at Urban Bees! With the weather warming up and fresh blossoms finally opening, our local foragers are wasting no time getting back to business.

Here is a scientifically fascinating fact about how these incredible creatures power their work: did you know that honeybees have a specialised "honey stomach" completely separate from their digestive tract, acting as a built-in fuel tank? When heading out to gather nectar and pollen from the new season's blooms, a forager packs this internal tank with high-energy honey to fuel her demanding flight muscles.🐝

Here’s to longer days, fresh growth, and sweet new beginnings.
How are you and your garden welcoming the new season today?

Happy Birthday to my brother Mike! 🥳🐝

As his sister and the one running his social media, I get the ultimate perk of posting this without him having a clue ~ lol!🤣

I’m down in Durban today wishing I was up in Joburg hanging out in the apiary with him. He handles the hives, I handle the content, and together we make a pretty unstoppable team.

In all seriousness, I am so insanely proud of him and the heart he puts into everything he does for the bees and his products. Since Mike avoids social media at all costs, he thinks he’s slipping through today without any fuss. Not on my watch!

Help a sister give him a proper birthday surprise! Drop a birthday wish, message, or note for Mike in the comments below ~ extra points for the worst Bee Pun 😆
I’m gathering every single comment to send straight to his WhatsApp later tonight so he knows just how much he’s appreciated! 👇🎂🍯

Every single one of them is a woman. 🐝

The forager flying miles for nectar. The builder shaping the comb cell by cell. The guard deciding who gets past the front door. Every worker bee running the hive? All female.

So next time you drizzle honey on your toast, know it's 100% girl power made that happen.

This Women's Day, we're raising a honey dipper to her, and to every woman who shapes the world around her, big or small.

Happy Women's Day, from the Lang's Bees and Urban Bees family 🍯

🎄 A Christmas Message from Urban Bees 🐝

At Urban Bees, our hearts are full this Christmas Day. While many are unwrapping gifts, we are reflecting on the greatest gift we received all year: your trust.

To every person who found a hive in their garden, their roof, or their workplace and chose to pick up the phone and contact us - thank you. In that one phone call, you made a choice. You chose compassion over convenience. You chose life over extermination. Because of you, a colony that might have been lost was instead given a second chance to thrive, to pollinate, and to be cared for in the safety of our apiary.

Our passion for these bees goes beyond beekeeping; it’s about being their voice in an urban world. Every time you contact us for a safe removal and relocation, you aren't just calling a business - you are becoming a guardian of nature. You are the reason these bees are humming in the warm sunshine today, protected and free.

We are so incredibly thankful for our community of bee-lovers who understand that every hive matters. Thank you for helping us keep the buzz alive.

May your Christmas be as sweet as honey and filled with the same kindness you’ve shown our bees this year.

With love, passion, and gratitude,

The Urban Bees Team 🍯✨

Some humor for a Happy Friday! 🤣❤️🐝
On my way to visit my swarm of tiny therapists! 😉 The hum is actually the sound of them chanting, "Relax, you've almost made it to the weekend." If you listen closely, you can hear it.

Tiny Fact: Bees beat their wings about 200 times per second, which is what creates that soothing (or alarming) sound!
Tell us..
Whats your buzz this weekend? 🐝😎

🌸 Hap-BEE Spring, South Africa! 🐝

The first day of September is here... And with it comes that unmistakable joy in the air. The mornings are warmer, gardens and parks are bursting back to life, and all around us, people and nature are shaking off winter’s rest.

It’s the season to dance in the sun, braai with friends, swim in rivers and lakes, and breathe in the freshness of new beginnings. Everywhere, new life is emerging - little ones, blossoms, and busy bees ready for a season of abundance.

For the bees, this is the moment they’ve been waiting for: the first flowers, pollen to carry home, and queens beginning to lay their summer workers. It’s a beautiful reminder to us all - rebirth, energy, and connection are flowing again.

🐝 A simple note from the bees: Don’t cut your grass just yet. Those first dandelions, clovers, and wild blooms are a vital early food source that helps colonies recover after winter.

From our hives to your homes, we wish you a season filled with sunshine, laughter, and growth. 🌞🌿

Happy Spring Day from Urban Bees & Lang’s!
Here’s to a magical summer ahead.
