~Garden Day Magic, made even more special by the people I love~

Garden Day was extra special this year, and my heart is still so full.

The loveliest part…my parents moved to our hometown recently to be closer to us, and we got to celebrate with Mom Charon Harris my sister Moonsea Create and our daughters. What a blessing!

Out first stop was Mom and Dad’s home, where Mom welcomed us with a table fit for royalty. Beautiful details everywhere, the most delicious iced teas and Dad’s Tella Harris freshly baked sweet and savoury scones and oh my goodness, he is a fantastic baker.

My Mother’s garden…oh my…they have only been here for three months and already she has created a little paradise. My Mom has always had a gift for making things beautiful, and we definitely inherited that from her.

Next stop was my sister Sue’s house for banana bread, tea and bubbly. She spoiled is with the prettiest handmade pottery sippy cups and trinket holders…such thoughtful treasures!

Then it was our turn to host. The weather had other plans, so our flower crown making had to wait, but we made dinner instead…hubby Ian Marais cooked the most delicious slow roasted leg of lamb complete with homemade tzatziki, I made roasted tomato soup served with bread… We didn’t even take much photos, we were simply too busy enjoying one another’s company, and honestly sometimes those are the very best moments.

To have my parents living within walking distance is a gift I don’t take for granted. A day filled with gardens, homemade treats, creativity, laughter and family. The kind of day you tuck away in your heart.

~Sweetest Little Weekend Away~

After all the hard work, I could finally stand back, take a deep breath and feel content about Stanford In Bloom. It truly was a a huge bloomin success, and I am already dreaming about the next one!

A little weekend away was just what the doctor ordered before Term Four started with a BIG bang and life became busy, busy, busy again.

We chose beautiful Swellendam for our little escape, and oh what a little adventure it turned out to be!

Mishka and I had carefully planned our thrifting route, ready to explore all the little vintage shops and hidden gems tucked away in town. And goodness me, Swellendam did not disappoint! There were treasures to be found around every corner, and we had the loveliest time rummaging, discovering and coming home with a few special finds.

The absolute cherry on top…I FOUND MY DREAM PAIR OF WHITE COWBOY BOOTS!

A little pair of white cowboy boots has been on my thrifting list for the longest time, and there they were, waiting for me in Swellendam of all places! Who would have guessed?

We stayed in the loveliest house, full of exquisite, eclectic charm and beautiful little details, with one very important extra…a hot tub! In our family, a hot tub is pretty much a non-negotiable when we plan a little escape. There is nothing quite like soaking away the tiredness of a busy season and having nowhere in particular to be.

Another unexpected discovery was a magical little fairy garden tucked away in the middle of town. Mishka and I were fortunate enough to be taken on a personal tour by the owner and designer, and what a wonderful world she has created! We wandered through this enchanting garden and were transported straight back into the childhood fantasy worlds we once dreamed of…

Then it was hubby’s turn, and we explored Swellendam’s museums and beautiful historical buildings together.

We came home with wonderful finds, happy memories and hearts full of gratitude.

With our batteries charged and plenty of inspiration gathered, we’re ready for the final stretch of 2026!

~Post-Stanford In Bloom daydreaming…~

Stanford In Bloom is always such a highlight of my year. Despite being one of my busiest times. I truly love every second of the preparations, the creating and all those little behind-the-scenes moments that make it so special.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit our beautiful village and popped in to see my little space at the Stanford In Bloom Market. I am so grateful to be able to spend my days doing what I love most…creating, making and finding beauty in the little things. My cup is full, although my feet are rather tired!

I am taking a little time now to slow down, potter in the garden, gather inspiration from all the lovely things that surround me and the little treasures that find their way to me, while dreaming up all sorts of whimsy for Christmas.

Speaking of things I love, you probably know by now that pansies have a very special in my heart. I have always been drawn to their sweet little faces, their colours and their old-fashioned charm. I can never resist a pretty pansy treasure to add to my collection.

The dress I am wearing was inspired by the pansies growing in my own little garden. Using Hepazome, the Japanese art of hammering flowers onto fabric, I used hundreds of pansies to create these delicate botanical prints. Each little flower leaves its own impression, transforming something as fleeting as a flower into a piece of wearable art…a little piece of my garden to wear and treasure for years to come.

I do love things that hold a memory, don’t you?

Now as I gather inspiration for the next season of making, I am dreaming of a very handmade, botanical and whimsical Christmas. I am so excited to share my Christmas 2026 wreath collection, upcoming wreath Workshop dates and all the other magical Christmas creations I have been dreaming up with you very soon.

For now, a little breathing room, a garden full of inspiration and a head full of Christmas dreams.

There is something about a garden in bloom that makes my heart happy. The poppies putting on a little show, everything is growing wild and lovely, and my little thrifted dress seem to belong right here among the flowers…

With Garden Day coming up next Sunday, I’m already thinking about how I’d like to celebrate. There is something rather special planned in my little garden, and I’ll be sharing a few photographs with you…

~Blooming, Creating and Celebrating~

My Crowned In Bloom fresh flower crown workshop during Stanford In Bloom was honestly such a joy. Stanford in Bloom

I absolutely loved guiding my lovely group girls step by step as they created their very own fresh flower crowns…while enjoying a glass of bubbly, lots of laughter and the most wonderful afternoon together.

One of my favourite things about these workshops is watching everyone’s personality come through in what they create…

Not one flower crown looked the same.

Every single one was completely unique and beautiful just like the women who made them.

I am so proud of each and every one of you and so grateful that you spent the afternoon with me.

These workshops really are about much more than making a flower crown. They’re about gathering, creating, laughing, celebrating and making beautiful memories together.

“Come and find me amongst the flowers, ceramics, candles and a little bit of Stanford magic…🌸”

My little market stall is all dressed up and ready for you!

I am especially grateful to have one of Carin’s Carin absolutely beautiful handmade paper flowers hanging out here with me…spreading a little more beauty and blooming during the show. 🌸

There’s something so lovely about seeing handmade things come together in one little space…each piece made slowly, thoughtfully and with lots of love.

Come and browse Keramiek’s Kera Miek beautiful ceramic collection, and have a little wander through my own collection of handcrafted dried flower wreaths, hand-rolled and hand-poured candles.

Everything has been made by hand and I’ve loved putting it all together for Stanford In Bloom.

~Some commissions are just a little bit more special than others…~

I had such fun dreaming up and creating the installation for Union Cafe to celebrate Stanford In Bloom and Chelsea Flowers In Stanford.

The idea began with a little spark from the brief they gave me, and from there, I got to do what I love most…

Dream.

Imagine.

Make.

For this idea I had some very special help…my Dad Tella Harris …engineer, architect, problem-solver and all-round extraordinaire, who turned 80 recently…I still feel incredibly lucky that he now lives just a few blocks away from us in Stanford.

He was so excited to get involved and help me figure out how on earth we were going to make a GIANT coffee cup!

He absolutely nailed it.

There is something rather wonderful about creating together with someone you love.

Two generations of ideas, figuring out, making a plan…and then suddenly, there it is. The idea becomes real.

I have to say, I’m rather in love with how it all came together. Thank you Dad for always being willing to jump into my crazy ideas with me. I am so proud of you!

Thank you to Union Cafe for trusting me with your vision and giving me the freedom to create something special for you.

I enjoyed the commission with my whole heart.

🦋~The Hustle Behind the BLOOM~🦋

The past week has been quite a hustle…almost like there simply weren’t enough hours in the days to get everything done for Stanford In Bloom.

But you know what?

I absolutely LOVE this time of the year.

It’s when I get to create my heart out. To dream up ideas, make things with my hands, build fiddle, change things, start again…and watch it all slowly come together.

It’s extremely exhausting, there’s no denying that.

Every drop of blood, sweat and tears that goes into creating and dreaming up all this magic is so worth it.

There is something incredibly special about taking an idea that has been living in your head and slowly watching it unfold…

One petal at a time…

Eventually you get to stand back and look at it.

And there it is.

The thing you imagined.

The thing you worked on when you were tired.

The thing you weren’t quite sure would come together.

Suddenly it has come to life…

That feeling is one of the most amazing feelings in the world.

Rewarding beyond words.

Without a doubt, the reason why I do what I do.

So while tiredness is very real now, so is the excitement.

Stanford In Bloom is unfolding…

and I can’t wait for you to see what has been growing behind the scenes.

One petal at a time.
