For those who know me, you'll know how difficult it is for me to ask for help, but here I am. Asking.
In March this year, at the age of 35, I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer.
A diagnosis that shook us.
My first admission was on the 21st of February 2022, after my husband, Adrian took me to the ER because of a severe stomach bug.I wasn't responding to medication and the ER doctor attending to me (Bless her!) decided to do a CT to find out what is going on.
I remember in my morphine induced haze hearing the words "we found a mass in your colon and we're going to need to admit you".
That was the start of our ongoing cancer journey.
That admission lasted 3 weeks, 8 of those days I was in ICU.
There have been some complications in our journey so far, from not being able to have the tumour removed because of its size, to having a colostomy done, to having encephalitis (blood poisoning of the brain, which sent me into a vegetative state; thrice, due to the initial chemo drug used) to having a clot found in my right lung.
I have been admitted to hospital more times than I would like to count, but I am conquering this.
My amazing oncologists have found the right cocktail of medication for me, which is kicking this tumours butt, while I am having minimal side effects. Thank you God!
Because of all the admissions and complications, my medical aid is almost maxed out and many bills, such as oncology (yes, we're paying out of pocket for my chemo treatments), radiology, stomal therapy (because my medical aid refuses to see this as a PMB), pathology, surgeons and anesthetist co-payments, dietician fees, and many more, are being paid out of pocket.
We have almost maxed out our savings and I am not yet through with my chemotherapy.
I will be needing a second procedure in the near future (once the doctors have determined that the tumour has shrunk down enough) to remove Lord Voldemort from my colon and our lives. I will then need more chemo therapy after the procedure as a precaution.
I know times are tough on everybody at the moment but I am asking, from all corners of my heart, if you are able to, please help us, help me carry on conquering this. Every little bit helps.

Disclaimer: My daughter does not know my diagnosis, she knows I'm getting treatment for my stomach but that's it.
In June 2021, we had to put our beloved pup, Loki, down at only 17 months due to colon cancer. I do not want her to think that that is the only outcome for Cancer Warriors. Please do your best to keep it this way.
