Trading as 'The Village Bakery', we have retail stores in Fordsburg, of Johannesburg, and Lenasia, located South of Johannesburg. We operate scratch bakeries, supplying to end consumers, through these retail channel locations, as well as supplying on a Wholesale basis to other stores for the bakery needs. Our stores have been part of the Dafasa Group, a Family Business, since establishment in 1981
. Today, The Village Bakery concept is part of our franchise offering, which was developed by Farouk and Fawzia Akoojee. The brand, 'The Village Bakery', has become a household name and has enjoyed great recognition over the years and thrives to support its markets within the predominantly Indian Consumer Base they serve in, for the areas of: Fordsburg, the surrounding suburbs, the old CBD of JHB and Lenasia. The store in Fordsburg was the birth place of the once very well-known and sort after product, known as: 'The Village Bakery Pies'. The manufacturing facility, known as Sunpie Foods, which ran an automated plant and facility to produce pies, pasties and sausage rolls for National distribution in South Africa where bought out in late 2006 by a large multi-national. The same facility continues to supply Woolworths with their range of pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Today, the two stores manufacture a range of 130-150 varied bakery and artisan styled products, on a daily basis, which are renowned for their quality and freshness. The Village Bakery has clients that travel from far and wide within South Africa to enjoy our treats. The Village Bakery has many fond clients, who live abroad today, and when visiting South Africa are always sure to make a visit to one of the stores to buy their favorite childhood treats. The support of our loyal client base, over the years, has been well received and we appreciate their continued support.
