On the trail, our guides not only point out the beauty of our mountain, they are quick to educate those interested on biological methods being used to control invasive species. Here, Andreas conducts a show and tell on galls. These berry-like spheres are produced by the larvae of the gall wasp. “As the days unfolded, we saw black sparrowhawks, a pair of Verreaux’s eagles, Cape sugarbirds darting between proteas, a secretary bird striding along a hill, and a spotted eagle owl.”
The words of travel writer Elize Kirsten, who walked our trail in February this year. Grab your copy of the latest Getaway magazine, on shelves now, and read her wonderful article about her experiences on various local slackpacking trails; “Weightless in the Wilderness”

When you walk our trail look ahead, look up and look around, but never forget to look closely. During the summer months the mountain is home to many of the 144 varieties of Disa, one of the Cape Floral Region's most diverse species. Our guides are on hand to point them out, name them and explain their unique beauty and you will remember them forever.
