🥛 Celebrate Milk Day the Sweet Way! 🍋🍮
This Sunday, we’re whipping up a fridge tart that’s a real blast from the past—*an oldie but a goodie*! And the best part? Most ingredients are available right here at Baking Bonanza 🙌

✨ Here’s what you need:

* 1 tin Condensed Milk
* ¼ cup Lemon Juice
* 3 cups Fresh Milk
* 2 dessert spoons Custard Powder
* 1 dessert spoon Sugar
* 1 packet Tennis Biscuits

🧁 **How to make it:**

1. Heat the milk to just before boiling.
2. Mix custard powder and sugar with a splash of cold milk, then stir into the hot milk to make a thick custard. Let it cool slightly.
3. Mix condensed milk with lemon juice until thickened.
4. Layer tennis biscuits in a dish, top with a third of the lemon mix, then half the custard. Repeat layers, ending with lemon mix on top.
5. Crumble a few biscuits over as a finishing touch.
6. Chill well, then dig in!

This nostalgic treat is perfect for your weekend sweet tooth—and a great way to celebrate **Milk Day** with love and lemony layers. 💛

These puff pastry custard slices are filled with homemade creme patissiere. They are quick to make because they use shop-bought puff pastry (get it from Baking Bonanza) , and the filling only takes minutes to put together

Frozen puff pastry defrosted
▢4 large egg yolks
▢6 tablespoons / 75 grams sugar
▢1½ cups / 360 ml milk
▢1½ tablespoons / 15 grams plain flour
▢1½ tablespoons / 12 grams cornflour (cornstarch)
▢1 teaspoon vanilla extract
▢¾ cup / 180 ml double or whipping cream

Creme patissiere
Beat the egg yolks until they are light and fluffy.
4 large egg yolks
Stir in the flour and cornflour. The mixture will be quite thick.
1½ tablespoons / 15 grams plain flour,1½ tablespoons / 12 grams cornflour (cornstarch)
Heat the milk, sugar and vanilla in a saucepan until it just comes to the boil.
6 tablespoons / 75 grams sugar,1½ cups / 360 ml milk,1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pour approximately ¼ of the hot milk into the egg and flour mixture and whisk well to remove any lumps, then pour the milk and egg back into the rest of the hot milk in the saucepan.
Whisk continuously over a low heat until the mixture thickens, then remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
Whisk the cream until stiff peaks form, then mix it through the cooled custard.
¾ cup / 180 ml double or whipping cream
Pastry
Pre-heat oven to 200°C/400°F
Unroll the pastry and cut into 21 evenly-sized rectangles (7 columns and 3 rows).
14 ounce / 395 grams frozen puff pastry
Now take each rectangle and gently press all around the edges with your fingers.
Arrange the rectangles on a baking tray lined with baking parchment.
Place the baking tray in the pre-heate¼d oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the pastry is well risen and golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Assembly
Slice the cooled pastry rectangles lengthwise in half.
Spoon a generous amount of custard onto the bottom half and gently cover with the top half of the pastry.
Sprinkle with icing sugar (confectioner's sugar)
Store covered in the refrigerator and eat within 4 days.

So what is the difference between a Macaroon and a Macaron?

A macaron is a sandwich-like cookie that’s filled with jam, ganache, or buttercream. A macaroon is a drop cookie made using shredded coconut.

The preparation for each of these cookies is incredibly different, even though they start out with many of the same ingredients. Both of these naturally gluten-free cookies are made using whipped egg whites, sugar, vanilla, and sometimes a bit of salt—but that’s really where the similarities end.

We stock all the ingredients to make your own macaroon or macaron. We also stock delicious frozen macarons.
