How it all started
I’ve always been a very creative person and my passion for baking started at a very young age. I grew up in a family where both my mother, and grandmother and my grandmother’s sisters was excellent cooks and bakers. Ever since I
can remember I wanted to become a chef, but life happened, and I ended up studying and fulfilling a career in marketing management. Moving and living in the beautiful little village of Wilderness on the banks of the Touwriver I wanted to study again. Somehow I decided to enrol myself with Unisa and studied parttime towards a Bcompt Accounting degree. Fast forward and I ended up working in cost accounting most of my career. In 2011 our second child was born. He was very sickly and spend most of his 2 years in hospital and eventually I quit my corporate career to care for him full time. I started a little venture, Pure.child Boutique Ptd Ltd which was my own brand of baby and toddler apparel, and I loved the creativity involved. In 2016 we found out that I was pregnant, with triplet girls. It was a massive shock at the time. But with God’s Grace we embraced every moment even though it was a very difficult pregnancy. One Sunday morning on 30 October 2022, at a gestational age of only 25 weeks and 4 days I went into premature labour at home. Our 3 extremely tiny girls were born, in our vehicle, in the lift of the hospital and in the entrance of the maternity ward which was such a traumatic affair.
2 of our girls passed away 2 months apart in the NICU, leaving us broken hearted. Our remaining triplet survivor fought very hard for 4.5 months in the NICU and had many ups and downs. She did so much hospital time in her first 3 years of life due to chronic lung illness. With the help of D&F and a wonderful neuro physio, she gave her first steps with a paediatric walker at the age of 3.2years old. Losing my 2 daughters took so much from me, I felt so lost and dead and battled with a sombre heart. A Friend motivated me to start baking again and out of the ashes, 1.5 years after the passing of our beloved Julia, my homebased bakery, Jean-mari’s Little Cake Company was born. Seeing my customers smile, make me happy. Each creation that leaves my house, is honouring my girls in Heaven. I cater for birthdays, kitchen teas, weddings, baby showers, Christenings, small/ medium size functions, etc. I’m based in Durbanville
Much love
