Resilient. Respectful. Joyful. Proud.
Meet Fhatu Lubisi, the third of our five Heritage Day winners.
A proud Mutsonga from Bushbuckridge, Fhatuโs heritage lives in the Xitsonga greetings she shares, the Vuswa, Tihove and Xigugu she grew up eating, and the sound of the Xibelani skirt and Xincayincayi drums.
It lives in faith, respect for elders, hard work, sharing food from one plate - and dancing through difficult times.
As Fhatu tells us: โBushbuckridge taught me Ubuntu, but in Xitsonga we call it Vumunhu.โ
Her story reminds us that even as life takes us to new places, our roots can keep us grounded in who we are and the values we carry forward.
Fhatu has won 1,000 Nutrific breakfasts for her chosen Educare, because, in her words, โevery child deserves a full stomach and a proud start to the day.โ
Turn up the sound and hear her story. ๐
This is the third of five remarkable stories. Keep watching as they unfold.
