I have a business called Amazing Spaces and am luckily enough to get to see lots of beautiful spaces. I went to see an old heritage building in Chelsea Village in 2014 with a view to marketing it for shoots, and the owner was trying to decide what to do with this old beauty, sell or rent.... I knew straight away that I wanted this space! I have a love for the old.... I grew up with parents who were serial Renovators and it gets into your blood. I went back to my (then) office in Woodstock (also an old gem) and told my staff there that we were moving to Chelsea Village.
Falcon House is one of the oldest Heritage buildings in Chelsea Village and used to be the original court house. It has the original old wooden floors, beams, high ceilings and gorgeous big rooms. When I first saw it, the loft space in the roof was already opened up as it has been in use by the previous owner who used it for her printing business. Within a short time I had bought the old space, and set about renovating her to return her to her former beauty. The downstairs became 2 gorgeous residential apartments, and I had to install an outside staircase to get access to the loft, which had the doors into it, just no staircase!
The whole space got a good lick of white paint, I had the desks and dividers custom-made, and had to hunt high and low for great office chairs that were white. I wanted to create a lifestyle space that was pleasing to the eye, had a relaxing feel, and wanted to create a seamless workspace that we could all enjoy.
It was only a few years later when we downsized our business that we decided to make it a shared co-working space. Best thing we ever did! We have had such amazing tenants, most of whom have arrived, and never left. They have become part of ‘the team’. We also have our resident Mama Bongi, who is integral to our success (best smile, best capuccino’s and the very best choc chip cookies!) We have a resident cat, Nala, who makes the space really feel like home, and there is a small outside deck for smoke breaks, coffee in the sun, or a private chat if needed. There is also a small living area that can be closed off for private meetings.
