No friends and family in business

No friends and family in business

Constantly giving cakes away to family and friends can set a precedent, others start to expect free work too. This slowly erodes the professional value of your craft and makes it harder to grow your business.

The truth is, when you give too much for free, people stop seeing your cakes as a skilled service and start treating them as favors. That’s not fair to you, your time, or your future clients who are happy to pay.

The valuable lesson? Set clear boundaries early on. You can say something like: β€˜I’d love to bake for you, here’s my friends & family rate’ or β€˜I need to reserve my free time for rest and family, but I can book you as a client.’

When you respect your own work, others will too. Your business deserves to be treated like a business, not a hobby or charity.
