We spent our long weekend at home, on a farm in the beautiful eastern Free State. My mother received local dinosaur-sized vegetables from a dear friend that we had to use for something special. Our beet and carrot cake with a creamy fudge icing was the perfect thank-you-for-the-veggies cake that we could share as family and friends.

Welcome to Cakes & Kisses.

About me (the baker)

I loved baking even before I was able to read a recipe. My mother gave me the freedom to explore the kitchen and create mysterious madness! I fell in love with making things from ideas and exploring my capabilities. Sometimes disastrous, other times beautiful inventions that my family loved. I’m no expert, I just love to bake and even more, love to serve the people around me things they love to eat. As an adult, I became more health conscious and started exploring ways to create baked goods that are healthier. I continuously explore ways of baking treats that have less sugar or that fits into a Keto, Banting or even Vegan lifestyle, especially if you want to eat cake as often as I do. However, for a special occasion, who’s going to mind the extra spoonful of sugar. 😁

I’m looking forward to baking something special for you!
