Canterbury Lebanese Bread Sydney's finest Lebanese bread

Since taking over ownership of Baalbek Bakery Canterbury in 2005, we have sought to preserve the excellent product handed down to us from our family and continually seek to modernise our processes so that this wonderful, ancient bread continues to shine at its best. Oour passion for producing the finest Lebanese bread - at a price that defies inflation - will be reflected in your love and enjoyment of it.

Anthony Rahayel paid us a visit on Saturday. He has, like us, Lebanese food blood in his veins. His knowledge is so expansive, built on a foundation of the nostalgia of childhood to the peak of his vast travels. He has visited many Lebanese bread bakeries in the past and we were pleased he was so effusive in his praise of what we have built here at Canterbury Lebanese Bread. Ps. apologies to lebanese speakers out there for my broken Arabic.

Such an honour to be part of the Strode Family Dinner tonight. Jeremy Strode was a dead set legend and his favourite ingredient was Parsley, which made him even dearer to our Lebanese hearts. Lauren Murdoch crisped up our Lebanese bread and served it with some sensational Spanish anchovies on a cloud of parsley olive and caper to make this an unforgettable canapé.

Today marked an absolute highlight of our baking lives - a visit to BFB in Temora with our flour supplier Allied. We saw wheat in its early stage of development as well as harvested grain in bunker storage, ready for shipment to millers such as Allied who then produce the finished product we use in our mix. We also witnessed Australian agricultural ingenuity in these parts where land is so beautifully utilised by BFB without the assistance of irrigation. Inspirational!

On 24 June 1977, my uncles Dikran, Manuel, Lutfi and John Gergi together with my dad Elias started trading in Australia as Baalbek Bakery. They eventually expanded to 3 stores before my dad retired 12 years ago. While each store is now independently owned, we stand on the shoulders of their monumental efforts, gifting us this wonderful product. Today I paid a visit to each of the surviving uncles to thank them for their guidance - pictures below. Finally, the original bread whisperer and master baker, my uncle dikran, passed away too early in life and this happy moment is tempered by the memory of his loss.

Maeve has been a huge supporter of our bakery and the greatest proponent of the yummy benefits of multicultural Australia. So it was a pleasure to have her and the food Safari crew in to film our bakery as part of the fire series coming out later this year

Our Rick Stein adventure didn't make it onto the programme, but being the hip outfit we are, the segment ended up as a 'web exclusive' on the bbc2 website.

Following his nose, Rick finds a Lebanese bakery for breakfast.

Today we had the privilege of welcoming the BBC to film us as part of a World on a Plate episode on Australian food helmed by Rick Stein. These are a few happy snaps featuring the great man himself, daddy, some of our magnificent packers and my partner in crime Adam

One of our favourite places and neighbourhood gem Plunge No.46 turns 10 years old and it's better than ever! Coffee alchemy beans, an outtacontrol 'egg in the middle' for brekkie and of course, Baalbek bread in their Kafta and Falafel wraps.
