We witnessed a bird competition hosted at my Auntie Nine’s restaurant. We watched the whole proceedings with no understanding of the rules, only noted that after 10 mins three birds were withdrawn from the competition until 10 remained, with the owners looking anxiously on. The final 10 were then whittled down to the last four after gasps and cheers.
Once I got internet reception, I did some research and found out that this is quite an expensive hobby and the birds are often worth a lot of money. This particular breed was the Red-whiskered Bulbul and there are four main criteria in which they are judged for:
1. How well the bird can sing
2. How beautiful the bird is
3. The shape of the bird
4. The duration the bird can sing
