Over it’s 135 year history as a cornerstone of downtown Wylie, the property at 100 North Ballard has had many names. La Esperanza will forever be enshrined alongside JP Garrison’s Saloon, First State Bank, Tasty Wok and OMG.
I first stood between these walls as a little girl, shopping at the Ladylike Shop next door with my grandmother, and I’m humbled to imagine the pride she would have felt if she could have witnessed what we’ve achieved during our short years here. As José and I lovingly restored the historic second floor, where we’ve hosted countless magical moments and special events, and built our family bakery downstairs where we’ve made and served hundreds of thousands of delicious scratch-made pan dulce to the community, we have been honored to call this beautiful landmark building our own.
It’s with hearts full of gratitude that we now make the decision to bring our time here to a close. Panaderia La Esperanza will pass the torch at 100 N Ballard at the end of 2023, opening the door for new and exciting opportunities.
With success comes pressure to scale-up, outsource, streamline, simplify processes and go commercial. But what we’ve found is that it’s our refusal to do things “the easy way” that sets us apart. We’re dedicated to a business model that upholds authenticity and quality while being welcoming to all, and uplifts partnerships with our community. Most of all we’re dedicated to prioritizing family, which is the paramount reason behind our choice to step back at this moment.
We know for many this news will be disappointing and difficult to understand. The love and support we’ve received from all of you is nothing short of incredible and we are beyond grateful. It’s in the spirit of paying it forward that we look towards future endeavors.
In early 2024, the Downtown Wylie Farmers Market Committee will convene to establish the groundwork for a community-based market, serving the need for locally produced goods to our growing community. We are thrilled to partner with the founding members of this much needed organization to bring this long anticipated market to fruition.
