Under Oregon Cottage Food Laws, I am not allowed to sell my customers:

1) Baked goods that require refrigeration after production (pies, cakes, pastries containing custard)

2) focaccia style breads that contains vegetables or cheese

3) baked goods containing meat, fish, or shellfish, such as pot pies or savory pastries.

Most customers I’ve talked to are surprised to learn about these laws! What surprises you the most?

1. The label on the packaging must state, “This product is homemade, is not prepared in an inspected food establishment, and must be stored and displayed separately if merchandised by a retailer”

2. Cottage foods in Oregon can be sold in any manner, including from the home, online, though the mail (whaaaat!) and at events.

3. I could sell homemade pet food - as long as it doesn’t contain meat! 🐶

4. Annual sales from a cottage food producer are capped at $51,200.

Not every bake turns out the way you picture it 🤎
This one? She had her own plans.

But that’s part of it—learning, adjusting, trying again.
And having tools you can count on makes all the difference, and I know this Dutch oven pan from will be there with me through all the delicious and not so delicious bakes 🤎
