While I never duplicate even my own work exactly, sometimes a cake or cheesecake touches someone’s heart so much that they request a version for their very own.

I made a similar cheesecake for a birthday several months ago and had several people inquire about it. This one was actually made for a Lord of the Rings style wedding. The words tell a romanticized version of their personal love story…

“When the long awaited announcement of engagement twixt Mr Bryan and Mariah of Hobbiton circled through the small town, there was much excitement and merriment to be had. They were a lovely couple, quiet and well respected throughout a community that had been graced with much peace in its seven score and ten years. Each of its brethren kept stoically to a routine handed down to them from generations long since gone, but ne'er a moment or task forgotten.
Bryan and Mariah were no different. They held the tasks of their forefathers with little to no sway until the fateful day they met.
Something happened that day. It was feeling that crept up from their toes and sent tingles down their spines. It was fiery, and like the cool breathe of the oceans all at once. And each time their eyes met the same odd sensation breached the boundaries of their individual worlds, bridging that gap and drawing them nearer one another, until nary a moment they could spend apart.
The union of the two was destined and much preparation had been put into this lovely occasion that was sure to be the talk of Hobbiton for years to come”.

Congratulations, Bryan and Mariah!

This baby shower set of an 8” three layer marble cake and 6 dozen matching cupcakes was so much fun to create! I was given a picture of a yellow cake with greenery around the top and bottom and dried flowers on it, then told to use buttercream florals and incorporate wildlife like a bear, fox, and rabbit. My mind automatically went to the old time nostalgic style cartoons of animals walking through the woods wearing shirts and carrying nap sacks, and I knew with conviction that this was how I wanted to incorporate the wildlife!

The cake, itself took me several hours at the end of my night Friday, finally leaving the bakery just shy of 3 am, with the white chocolate fox and 6 dozen cupcakes left to do when I came in the next (or… the same?) morning.

I started the cupcakes bright and early around 7:30 with the chocolate bunnies that I knew I wanted to incorporate somehow, then made my frosting and started with the easy design - one dozen chocolate and one dozen vanilla with green leaves and a cluster of flowers in the center. As I was creating them, my mind was playing on the other two sets, how to incorporate the bunnies and the little buggies. I knew I was going to use some grass in the buggie set. It should be simple - grass and leaves, maybe a few little dainty flowers like the ones hanging down on vines in the cake and a few bugs buzzing around should be cute. But what about the bunnies? Leaves would drown out the bunnies. Icing and bunnies would bring focus straight to the bunnies, but how boring! Grass? Fitting. But that would just be stupid.

As I sat decorating the floral cupcakes in the “clear spot” on my work table that was mostly cluttered with bowls of base color frosting, piles of frosting bags, specialty tips, a tray of white chocolate bunnies, candy bugs and other necessities, a soft but mischievous giggle made its way from my mind out my mouth to pierce the silence of the kitchen. What if… I made the bunny set an even closer match to the cake? Yellow background, grass, and the bunny would be too cute! Oh!!!! ANNNNND - ribbon icing for the yellow to match the rustic swirl of the cake! AND I COULD ADD A LITTLE BEEEEE!!!! How adorable would that be!!! Love it!!!! That’s what I’m going to do!

And so it was done. And I was super excited and super happy and so were the customers. And now you know what goes on in my mind as I’m decorating custom orders. (At least this time!)

This wedding set up on Sunday at Pere Marquette Lodge drew its inspiration entirely from the beautiful forestry surrounding the area. The couple love being in nature and wanted to embrace that in the look of their treats. The cake is a two tier double barrel chocolate and French vanilla cake with a birch tree design and carved heart and initials. Matching the cake perfectly were two dozen decorated sugar cookies that looked as though we took the heart off the cake and placed it directly on the cookie. They completed the look with two dozen cupcakes in chocolate and French vanilla with blue floral clippings to match the florals on the cake.

Beautiful, elegant, and natural.
Congratulations to the happy couple.

This wedding set up from Saturday at Laux Brickroom had a distinctly elegant aesthetic with a beautifully timeless undertone enveloping the entirety of the table. The imperial column cake stand elevates a one tier, more modern style wedding cake, effectively bridging the gap between new and old at the most climatic point of the table and is surrounded by both cake and cheesecake shooters in banana pudding, triple chocolate, French vanilla cake with mousse, and lemon blueberry cake. The timeless element is also represented ever so subtly in the bubble globes scattered about the table; each containing a single chocolate dipped strawberry. And, of course, no wedding table is complete without cookies. This couple chose our chocolate chip, another enduring option cherished and enjoyed through the generations, and elevated here to keep the elegance flowing.

Congratulations to the happy couple. May your love be as elegantly beautiful and timeless as this day in your history.
