Sourdough dot cake cookies are here for a limited time only. They’re 1.5x as big as our regular cookies and topped with scratch made vanilla bean ganache and about a billion rainbow sprinkles. 🩷

Today marks 1 year since I’ve been in business! 🎉🥳🧁

Whether you’ve been with me since before the idea for Leaven & Layer was born—who remembers Christmas 2024 when I first made the chocolate chip cookies?—or you just discovered me at a market, thank you for making this whole thing possible. 💛

Just one year ago, I was hoping and praying to get a single order and today I sold out with an hour to spare at .

If you have a small business dream, keep building it! It’s chaotic and crazy sometimes, but it’s YOURS and there’s nothing like building something entirely from scratch (no pun intended). 👩‍🍳🥣

Did you know every batch of our sourdough cookies takes 2 full days from start to finish? 🤔

Most of that time (18-36 hours to be exact) is used for fermentation. That nutty, complex, what-on-earth-is-this-magical-cookie flavor doesn’t happen instantly. It takes time and care to develop it in every bite. 💛

“What makes sourdough cookies different?”

This is the most common question I get at every market. The answer is this: it’s all about the fermentation.

Every batch starts with sourdough starter, a living culture that helps develop flavor over time. When it’s mixed into the dough and allowed to ferment, a slow transformation begins. The ingredients have time to interact, mature, and develop layers of flavor that simply aren’t possible in a same-day dough.

That’s the magic of long fermentation. It doesn’t make the cookies taste sour. Instead, it creates a richer, more complex flavor with depth and character that can’t be rushed.

Good things take time and cookies are no exception. 🍪

Made with grass-fed butter, loaded with chocolate chips, and fermented for 2 days with sourdough cultures, these double fudge brownie cookies are my all time favorite. 🤩🍫🍪
