Nine years ago we first set up our little yellow tent at the displaying an assortment of baked goods the two of us had spent all night preparing.

So many nervous feelings went through us that morning. Would people buy our cinnamon rolls? Would they appreciate our pies? Would they think our chocolate cake was as luscious as we did? What if no one liked our pastries?
•
Our city showed up that day and within an hour all our baked goods were sold.
•
Thank you to all our customers from years ago and to everyone who has joined our journey along the way. We appreciate you so much, and are grateful you helped our dream of a little bakery become a reality.

We have waited a whole year for this moment! Today we are launching our NOLA cold brew. It is a New Orleans-style cold brew made with dark roast coffee and chicory root! The chicory offers a nutty/chocolatey flavor that pairs very well with the dark roast coffee. It is sweetened with simple syrup and topped off with cream and it is DELICIOUS.

Someone asked me recently if we actually come from Amish heritage or if we just use that for storytelling.
•
Our Amish and Mennonite ancestors immigrated to the U.S. as German and Swiss Anabaptists fleeing religious persecution in the late 1700’s and 1800’s. They then moved to Ohio and settled in the Amish community there in the 1800’s.
•
My Father was raised in the Amish church and my Mother in the Mennonite church, and upon their marriage in 1940 they both joined the conservative Mennonite church. This is the plain lifestyle in which I was raised.
•
I left the Mennonite church at age 23, but our extended family on both sides is still in the Amish and Mennonite culture. So, yes, that is our heritage.

We had a lovely time with today as they filmed our team in the kitchen baking all the things.

My Mennonite Aunt Edna would be so proud of our layer cakes, inspired by her and the hand written recipes she left me in a little box now yellowed with age. As with most of our baked goods, these cakes are a reflection of our family’s heritage and grandmother’s table.
