I will be raising hens (smaller) and roosters (like these) again in the Fall. I do not want to do them in the summer as they hate the heat and so do I…no need for either of us to suffer.

If you like to reserve your chickens now that would be great so I can adjust my order of chicks. They will be processed late October-ish.

If you ordered a hearty farm‑fresh chicken from me, they are ready for you. Harvested on Monday, rested, packaged, bopped into the freezer and now waiting for pick‑up. Please contact me for pick up time options.

These birds were raised the way chicken should be raised—no antibiotics, no vaccines, no feed additives. They were moved to fresh grass every single day, always had clean water, shade, and room to roam. This honors the birds, enriches the soil, and produces chicken with real flavor.

I still have five whole chickens available if you’d like one. They’re all in the 7.5‑pound range—big boys. People say a 4–5 lb bird feeds 4–6 adults… but they must be serving a lot of sides.

A bird this size can easily give your family:
A beautiful roasted chicken dinner
White meat for sandwiches
Dark meat for tacos
Another full meal of soup or pasta
And please, please make broth from the carcass—liquid gold. I was able to make 21 pints of broth (after processing 6 for my freezer) and now I am making deep rich bone broth loaded with collagen and minerals good for sipping (and cooking).

Let me know if you’d like to claim one of these big beauties. They are $4 per pound of exceptional home-grown protein.

This yummy yummy cake was ordered by a gentleman as a surprise birthday gift for his wife. They had some from a neighbor a couple of weeks ago at their birthday celebration. His wife went crazy for it so he went to work to find me. Now that’s a great husband!!!! I hope she enjoys the cake!

It's Valley Junction Farmers Market Day! Presented by GFiber. We have a bunch of new produce and plant vendors along with 80+ art, baked goods, treats, and food tucks, and the beverage garden opens at 5:00 and Bad Friends begins at 6:00.

If you're coming down to visit our shops and restaurants this afternoon, please use the 24-hour free parking lots located behind the 5th street businesses. 5th street closes at 2pm to allow for vendor load-in.

Bike racks have been added to the lot just east of the beverage garden. Avoid the jalopy overcrowding entirely by riding your bike to the market!

Please follow all parking rules when visiting Valley Junction events. To keep everyone safe, West Des Moines Police officers may ticket or tow vehicles parked:

-In front of public or private driveways or mailboxes
-On or across a sidewalk or on a crosswalk at an intersection
-Within or within 10 feet of an intersection of any street or alley
-Within 10 feet of a flashing beacon, stop or yield sign or traffic control signal located at the side of a street
