The building that we meet in really isn't the church, it's where the church meets. That's the body of Christ, according to the bible, or the scriptures as some people call it. Most of all the people who come here have been coming for a pretty long time. We like to think that is a healthy sign, since there's so many churches a person can choose from. We like to think that maybe they keep coming bac
k because they feel everyone cares about each other and we think that there is plenty to learn. Especially on the subject of God. As far as learnig we probably haven't even scratched the surface as they say, but we'll keep trying anyway. The bible...Old and New testaments are basically all we try and operate from. We think that down through the ages a few things the church did back then have been sort of lost or discontinued and that is unfortunate. So as much as we can, we try to re-establish what the church and Christianity once was (not riding in chariots, or on camels). Early Christians met for the sole purpose of remembering Jesus who had given his life for them. They broke bread (communion or Lord's supper) at least once a week (Acts 20:7). They sang hymns and Psalms. They prayed together about thngs that were of great importance to them. They helped each other in whatever way was needed. This is basically what we hope to accomplish here in Windom. In those days they were just Christians. There were not any brand named Christians yet. Churches were autonomous (independant) had no councils ruling over them form soewhere else. They were there to serve God and take care of the community they lived in. People were learning about Jesus all the time. When they reached the point they learned enough about Him to make a decision about His claim of being God's Son they were baptised (Immersion in those days) and began to live their lives with a whole different perspective. When this was done God added people to His church (no vote was taken for membership). This pattern is repeated often in the book of Acts in the New testament. To people today, if they're interested, we try and follow this same pattern. Of course the ultimate goal is to get to our real home...heaven. In the interim we try to learn these things from scripture so that we can be better: husbands, wives, parents, grandparents, neighbors, employees and every other way that might make life a little more bearable for all. That is our mission plain and simple. Most of the time the things God wants of us are simple, but not always easy to do...but there's great reward for trying. If any of this appeals to you , we hope you'll ask questions. We truly believe this approach will make all of our lives better, and in so doing, all will see the greatness of our Creator. Sometimes life can become so hard for us, and when it does that's when it really helps to know something about the Creator and sustainer of all life, and to remember His promise "All things are possible with God" (Matthew 19:26).
