🌾 WHY ARE OUR INGREDIENTS SO SIMPLE?
I’ve been sharing a lot lately about the wheat behind our noodles.
Where it comes from.
How it’s grown.
How it’s cleaned.
How it’s stored.
How it makes its way from North Dakota to Ohio.
And after learning more about that whole process, there’s something I keep coming back to…
Why would I want to add a bunch of other things to it?
Our noodles start with something that has already had so much care put into it.
Good wheat.
Then I add water.
That’s it.
🌾 Crushed wheat
💧 Water
And from those two simple ingredients, we make our noodles.
No preservatives added.
No enrichment.
No unnecessary ingredients added to make the list longer.
Just crushed wheat, water, traditional pasta-making methods, time, and care.
And honestly, I love that.
Because somewhere along the way, I think we’ve started believing that food has to be complicated to be good.
That more ingredients must mean more value.
That if something is packaged, it needs a long explanation on the back.
But sometimes…
simple is enough.
That doesn’t mean every ingredient in every packaged food is bad. And it doesn’t mean every family needs to make food the way we do.
For me, it simply comes down to this:
I want to know what I’m making.
I want to know what’s in it.
And I want to understand the story behind the ingredients I’m putting on my family’s table.
And when I look at our noodles, I see a pretty simple story.
A farmer grew the wheat. 🌱
It was cleaned and cared for. 🌾
It traveled from North Dakota to Ohio.
His Saving Grains carefully crushed it.
And here in our little shop, I add water and turn it into pasta.
That’s our ingredient list.
Two simple ingredients.
But behind those two ingredients is a whole lot of work, knowledge, time, and care.
And maybe that’s what I love most.
Simple doesn’t mean there isn’t a story.
Sometimes, the simplest things have the longest stories.
