As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. That led me to earn a degree in biology—but at that milestone, I found myself at a crossroads. I didn’t feel called to be a physician. While I loved the lab, I longed for a deeper connection to people beyond the microscope.
That clarity came during a difficult time when a CVICU nurse cared for my father amid a poor prognosis. Her compassion, expertise, and presence brought peace to our family and showed me the nurse I wanted to become.
What was once “I want to be a doctor” became “I’m meant to be a nurse.”
The prerequisites were just the start. Each challenge led me to study at , where nursing school tested my endurance, resilience, and commitment.
Early commutes from Westchester to Brooklyn for clinicals and late nights studying while raising three children made every moment both a challenge and a gift. My purpose, passion, and family pushed me forward.
I’m honored to have been inducted into Sigma Theta Tau and to receive the NYU Founders Award—recognitions of both reflect hard work and the heart behind it.
To my three children: your love and belief fueled me every step.
To my mother and sister: thank you for stepping in when I needed to step out.
To my friends: your encouragement and support carried me further than you know.
This journey shaped me—not just as a nurse, but as someone who knows the power of perseverance, purpose, and love. I am extremely proud to be Josephine Paniagua BSN,RN 👩🏽⚕️🩺⚕️👩🏽🎓
