I had the pleasure of creating a wedding cake for Annie and Kevin, who have been an absolute delight to work with!

This wasn't your traditional wedding cake, because these two are hippies at heart! A dairy-free cake featuring half coconut, half carrot cake, and did I mention it's filled with Skittles and sprinkles? A little groovy, a little unconventional, and completely them!

Baker 🧁 + Bookkeeper 📊
Turns out those two worlds go together REALLY well.

I’ve spent 9 years running my baking business and 11 years working professionally in bookkeeping, and I’ve learned that making great food is only HALF of running a successful food business.

So around here, we’re talking baking, bookkeeping, pricing, profit, farmers market burnout, small business reality, and figuring out how to build a business that actually works for your life.

The cakes are staying. We’re just adding spreadsheets. 😂

My handwriting has been terrible for YEARS. 😂 You’d think after all this time it would’ve magically gotten better…but apparently you have to actually PRACTICE for that to happen. Rude.

So when I had a wedding cake that needed a simple “Just Married” piped on top, I was NOT about to freestyle it and hope for the best. 😭

I practiced. And practiced. And practiced some more.

Then came the moment of truth: piping it onto the actual cake.

AND I GOT IT ON THE FIRST TRY. 🙌🏽🎂

No scraping it off.
No smoothing the buttercream and pretending nothing happened.
No “maybe we can cover that with a flower.” 😂

Bakers, practice your frosting handwriting! Even if you don’t use it every day, piping letters and practicing cake writing is one of those decorating skills that absolutely comes in handy when you need it.

Practice on parchment. Practice on cake boards. Practice with leftover buttercream. Your future self will thank you.

And apparently…so will your wedding cakes. 😂💍🎂

I fully intended to record the entire process of getting ready for the farmers market. 😂

The cinnamon rolls. The cookies. The banana bread. The brownies. The crumbles. All of it.

And then actual baking happened… and the camera was forgotten. 🤷🏽‍♀️

So here you go: a tiny glimpse into the chaos of a cottage baker getting ready for market day. 😂 Because apparently I can bake OR be a content creator, but doing both at the same time is asking a little too much.
