it’s amazing what twenty years, about 4k fires and close to 600k loaves of bread will do to an oven, not to mention the body of the person doing all the work. these last twenty years have brought me joy as well as challenges and more than anything it has shown me what kind of power something as simple as a loaf of bread can have. those of you who know me personally know my diy punk rock ethic permeates everything i do. i won’t do ANYTHING half assed and i refuse to sacrifice my beliefs or my integrity for anyone or anything. i am not afraid of making hard decisions and in case you haven’t heard the word on the street, last thursday i let all of my accounts know that this coming thursday, june 29th, will be the final delivery day for rupert rising breads. the hearth that we replaced a little less than three years ago is already deteriorating because of poor quality bricks which makes it a liability, the beginning of arthritis in a couple of my fingers as well as the veins in my legs not working so great after twenty years of standing for countless hours have all lead me to this decision, this need, to retire from bread baking professionally. trust me when i say that this is not easy for me. there has already been tears and i’m sure there will be more by the end. i can’t thank every single one of you enough for allowing me to have been so successful all this time. i have been able to work from home to be with my family whenever they needed me and have been able to help provide for them. with that said i get ready to turn the page on this chapter, hang up the apron and move on to the next stage of my life. thank you all so much. it’s been an amazing journey. much love to you all and be good to yourself. jed. 6/25/23 (twenty years and ten days since we fired the oven for the first time)
