π¨ IMPORTANT NOTICE: WE WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT $100 BILLS π¨
It is incredibly sad that I even have to make this post, but effective immediately, Smallcakes will no longer accept $100 bills at our locations.
Like so many other small businesses, we are struggling to survive. Sales are slow, food costs continue to rise, payroll and operating expenses keep increasing, and every single day we are doing everything we can just to keep our doors open.
And then someone decides to come into our bakery and pass off a counterfeit $100 bill.
The worst part? The bill was so convincing that even our counterfeit detection marker showed it was real.
So not only did we lose the products we sold, but we also lost the cash we gave back in change. And when we took the bill to the bank, it was confiscated because it was counterfeit. We are now out all of that money.
For a large corporation, that might be a small loss. For a small business like ours, EVERY dollar matters.
We are not some big company with endless money behind us. We are a small business trying to pay our employees, pay our bills, keep up with rising food costs, and avoid becoming another storefront with a CLOSED sign on the door.
To the person who passed that bill, I hope you understand that you didnβt just take money from a register. You took money from a small business that is already fighting every day to stay open.
We are working too hard to survive to have people take advantage of us like this.
To our loyal customers who continue to support us, THANK YOU. β€οΈ You have no idea how much your support means, especially during these difficult times.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this new policy may cause, but we simply cannot afford to take another loss like this.
π Please support your local small businesses. So many of us are hanging on by a thread, and situations like this make it that much harder to keep our doors open.
