💛 What’s the story behind the Jerry Can?

The Jerry Can has become a powerful symbol for both staff and supporters of . Chances are you’ve even seen one tattooed on my arm.

Simply put, a Jerry Can is a container used to carry fuel or water. In many developing countries, people rely on Jerry Cans to collect, transport, and store their drinking water. A standard five-gallon Jerry Can weighs about 40 pounds when full.

But the Jerry Can represents much more than a container.

It symbolizes the global water crisis. Millions of people around the world spend hours every day carrying one—strapped to their backs, resting on their hips, or balanced on their heads. For many families, the Jerry Can is woven into daily life. It accompanies long walks to water sources and holds one of their most precious resources. In fact, many families rely on just a single five-gallon Jerry Can of water each day.

To me, the bright yellow Jerry Can is also a symbol of hope.

I believe in a future where every person on Earth has access to safe, clean water—and where every Jerry Can is filled with water that won’t make someone sick. That’s the dream that continues to inspire me.
