πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‘ A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out tonight to help set up the tent!

Anyone who has helped before knows that this is no small task. It's a big tent, it's tough work, and it takes a lot of effort to get everything set up and ready for the season.

What makes tonight especially meaningful is that so many people chose to set aside their own time, responsibilities, and personal priorities to help the organization as a whole. That spirit of teamwork and selfless service is what keeps our Post moving forward and allows us to continue supporting our members, veterans, and community.

It means a great deal to see such a strong group of volunteers come together for a common purpose. Many hands truly do make light work, and thanks to your efforts, the job was completed quickly and efficiently.

Your willingness to step up, work hard, and support Post 282 is a testament to the dedication and camaraderie that make our Legion Family special.

As ALS Awareness Month comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on a disease that has touched our Legion Family far more than we ever wish it had.

ALS has impacted members of our Post, our Sons of the American Legion, our Auxiliary, and the families we hold dear. It serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, support, and standing beside one another through life's most difficult challenges.

One of the greatest strengths of the American Legion Family is that no one has to face those challenges alone. We celebrate together, we grieve together, and we support one another when it matters most. To everyone currently battling ALS, caring for a loved one with ALS, or remembering someone lost to this disease, please know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers.

As we close out ALS Awareness Month, we wanted to share this heartfelt article about one of our Legionnaires, his wife, and his father Joe, a member of our Sons of the American Legion family, who passed away from ALS. Their story is a powerful reminder of the strength of family, the importance of cherishing every moment, and the enduring impact that love and support can have during even the most difficult times.

Please take a moment to read their story and keep all those affected by ALS in your thoughts. πŸ’™

Zuleika and Zachery Hammond moved their wedding date up to ensure Zachery's father, Joseph Hammond, could be part of their celebration after he was diagnosed with ALS. Joseph died about two months after the heartfelt hospital ceremony.

At our recent American Legion Family Meeting, members of the Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion came together to celebrate the accomplishments of our Legion Family and the positive impact we continue to make throughout our community.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to Auxiliary President Deborah DeCook and Sons of the American Legion Commander Kevin Kirkwood. Over the past two years, both have played a vital role in helping strengthen our organizations, expand community engagement, and build a stronger Legion Family. While many see the events, programs, and successes, much of their dedication happens behind the scenes through countless hours of planning, problem solving, communication, and support. Their leadership, commitment, and willingness to step up whenever needed have helped make many of our accomplishments possible, and we are grateful for all they have done in service to our members, veterans, and community.

The evening also featured the presentation of a $625 donation from the Sons of the American Legion to the Harvey Hooligans for the ALS Foundation in recognition of ALS Awareness Month. What makes this donation especially meaningful is that a significant portion of these funds was raised through the generosity of our Legion Family members who attended the meeting. Through raffles, donations, and their continued support of charitable causes, our members once again demonstrated the spirit of service that defines the American Legion Family.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, participated, and contributed. Because of your support, we were able to recognize dedicated leaders, support an important cause, and continue strengthening the bonds that make our Legion Family so special.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Today, the Lima American Legion Family was honored to support the East Bloomfield Memorial Day parade and ceremony as we came together to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

This year marked the first time Lima American Legion Post 282 had the privilege of helping support Memorial Day services in East Bloomfield, and we were incredibly proud to be part of such an important day of remembrance for the community. Being able to march alongside residents, carry the colors, and participate in honoring those who paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy today was truly meaningful for all of us. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Memorial Day is about ensuring the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are never forgotten. Seeing the community come together in remembrance was a powerful reminder of how important these traditions continue to be, not only for veterans and their families, but for future generations as well.

Thank you to everyone from our Legion Family who came out today to represent the post with pride and respect, and thank you to the East Bloomfield community for welcoming us and taking the time to honor our fallen heroes together.

We were proud to stand with East Bloomfield today and help honor the legacy of those who gave everything for our nation. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
