Hey friends. We have been working so hard on the property lately, especially this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I had queen bees delivered that had to be hived up, 20 bare root blueberry plants came in the mail, and I had to prepare the bed. Brother Tim helped finish some ditching and I planted the grass. The kids wanted to camp on the property before we moved in, and we stayed in the pop up at night. It was the best time Amy and I have had in a long time.

Honey bee swarm season is coming up in April. Going to try the swarm traps again. Struck out last year, but now I have a large bee yard down the road from my property. If he lets one get away, perhaps I will get it. Will let you know how it goes.

We installed several hundred feet of French drain on the property to manage ground water. Hopefully this will dry out the field and the driveway. While the rain this winter has been difficult, it has shown us up front what we need to do.

Yesterday I needed to move several stumps and clumps of brush to the burn pile that are too large to move by hand – a perfect job for the Kubota. I drove it from my parents house to the property. In high gear, this thing cruises at an impressive 11 mph. In the midst of this cold snap, this was a c...

There has been much activity on the property. We have been taking out the walnut trees along the creek. The reason is walnut emits a toxin that kills many plants and trees. We now have a well with 20 gallons per minute, and the builders have completed the block foundation.

On November 17, Amy and I closed on a 4 acre parcel in Bethel. We immediately set to work building a driveway with expert assistance from brother Tim. We tilled up and removed the good top soil from the road bed. It will be put to good use.

This is what I had on my biscuits this snowy morning. We have some excellent golden sourwood honey produced by the bees this summer. It is available for $9 per 12 ounce bottle (larger quantities available too). If you would like some, please email me through this web site (the Contact Us link) or at...

http://tranthamfamilyfarm.com/2017/10/23/gains-and-losses/

Greetings to you all. Our family had a devastating loss this summer. It was the kind of thing that changes you forever, and demonstrates, starkly, that there is no going back in this life, only forward. Almost everything is harder than it was before, and some things we just cannot do right now. But…
