There's not many things that can compare to the feeling of freedom after getting your braces off! I remember it well...I think I smiled for ten hours straight! My dear sister is going to be experiencing that same thrill this morning, and she was so impressed with the great service and care she received from the staff at Dr. Littlejohn's office that she asked me to make them some silly "braces" cookies. I hope they enjoy eating them as much as I enjoyed making them!

Some pretty cool Bat Signal cookies for my nephew Roman's third birthday celebration at his preschool! In Seneca Falls you are allowed to bring homemade treats to school, but here in Waterloo the school requires all treats to be "store bought" and packaged. Well here's a scoop for all you Waterlooians-you can purchase SugarBoots products for you children's school treats, because I have home processor certification! So if you're interested in custom made treats for your little one's birthday celebration at school, p.m. me!

I know it's been forever since I've posted here, due to my incompetence when it comes to technology! I've had a heck of a time getting my pictures to download from my phone to the pc....then trying to organize them...well let's just say I've almost given up on organizing them! They're all over the place!
Some of these are cookies from trays I did at Christmas, some from a Dallas Cowboy themed baby shower, and the rest are titled "cookie madness"...I think you can see why. When I have an order, there are usually cookies everywhere in my house lol. It sure makes it smell amazing in here! Hope you all enjoy the photos, and remember, cookies can be customized to your occasion!

Hey Everyone! I thought I'd better let you all know what I've been up to lately as I realize it's been like, forever since I've posted. The reason I haven't been posting lately is pretty simple, I've applied to the great state of NY for certification to be a home processor, and it takes some time for that to happen. Until I receive approval from the state I can't promote my business (legally) so I've been refraining from doing so. This doesn't mean I haven't been busy, especially this time of year I've been busier than ever! I just think in business we have to play fair, and in order to play fair I have to abide by the rules and regs set forth by the state.
I know that sounds a bit stodgy but the reality is if we all just went about doing as we pleased we'd be stepping on a lot of toes. If I were to mass produce baked goods and undercut my competitors prices (I've seen people doing this, sometimes selling product for half what anyone else is, believe me I don't get it at all), I wouldn't be helping the business community as a whole and I definitely wouldn't be playing fair. If everyone else around me has to go through a licensing process, then so do I. So anyway, that's what's been going on around this busy little kitchen....
I'd like to wish you all a happy and blessed holiday season! As soon as I get that piece of paper I'll be blowin' this joint up, so keep watching!!

Hey Everyone! I wanted to take a minute and talk about...money. The reason I feel I should discuss this is because this past week I have been approached by a few people who were planning on ordering from me until they found out what I charged. I should add that some of this was precipitated by the peacock cookies...lol. Those were some awesome cookies, but they are also very expensive cookies. Here's why...first of all, the finished cookies was between five and six inches long, which is rather large for a cookie. They were all hand decorated and then they were also labeled and tagged and the package was decorated with ribbon. All things considered $5.00 per cookie is right where the price should be. On the other hand, your average two to three inch decorated cookie will run between $2.00 and $3.00 per cookie depending on how elaborate the decorating is. I am always willing to work with a customer to try to accommodate their budget!

On August 31st, my friend Evangeline Reale-Jones, the owner of Om Yoga Studio in Geneva, sponsored a wellness fair/fund raiser for a little girl who was diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. On top of doing a great yoga event which included yoga right on Castle Street (they closed the street for the event), she also did a silent auction. There were tons of awesome prizes donated by area businesses for this event. I donated this cookie tray and then was worried no one would bid on it!!!! After all, cookies at a wellness fair? But luckily at least one person bid on it and then donated it back to be shared by all who attended. The event was a huge success and raised a lot of money for this local family to help them through this terrible time. Sometimes I really love the community I live in, some people tell me they would hate to live in such a small community, but we really come together and help each other.

Late August and early September were really busy around here with end of summer parties and wedding festivities. My brother-in-law was married on September 7 (congratulations Ralph and Colette!) and I was asked to do the wedding favors. Colette loves peacocks and asked me if I could create a peacock feather cookie that could be used as both a favor and also as a place card. Hmmmmm...why not? She ordered some cutters for me and that's when the fun began...I started by tracing the cutter on copy paper and trying to replicate a peacock feather with royal icing. That at least let me know that yes, this could be done. I made 130 peacock feather cookies, bagged 'em, tagged 'em, and the rest was history. I was going to take pictures of the entire process but when I start something like this I become really focused and forget to take pictures! As you may imagine, there are several steps involved and it's a time consuming and work intensive process. From baking 12 batches of six in sugar cookies, to flooding each one and then adding details, it's pretty elaborate. It took approximately sixty to seventy hours from start to finish...which means starting at seven a.m. and finishing each day at three thirty am the next morning, up at seven to start again. Whew. I was really, really pleased with the finished product. Each cookie was then dusted with peacock "disco dust", which is a superfine edible glitter that unfortunately doesn't show at all in the photos. They were really very pretty.

I just wanted to give an update on my last two weeks, which have passed in a bit of a frenzy! It began with the creation of centerpieces/favors for my niece Reagan's first birthday party....Unfortunately I was in such a rush to get these done that the pictures don't really do them justice. We did flower and butterfly cookies in pink and yellow, and then gathered them in these cute little watering cans for table centerpieces. We used a piece of floral foam and covered it with little candies for "dirt" in each can. They were really adorable when they were finished! Next it was on to pie crusts which I made for my other niece Kassie's wedding. In addition to wedding cake (made by the talented Mirandia Pipher), Kassie had 20 blueberry pies for dessert. Genius. I made twenty pie crusts for the pies, 13 prebaked and seven unbaked as she had two different styles of pie, both cream and regular. They were a real hit, and one of these days I'll do a pie crust tutorial video on here because people should never be afraid to make pastry! And then on to the next project, a cookie tray for one of my favorite businesses run by one of my favorite people, Om Yoga Studio in Geneva, run by my fabulous friend Evangeline Reale-Jones. I thought it came out just lovely....but you can see for yourself!
Next project....many many peacock feather cookies I'm making as wedding favors for my soon to be sister-in-law Colette Campbell...so stay tuned!
