The other day, someone amazing dropped a plate of fudge and rice krispie treats and peanut butter squares on our doorstep.

If that was you, HI! Thank you! My kids loved finding the lucky charm marshmallows in their treats.

It got me thinking, though, why do we only get these small gifts during the holidays? Why do we get into the bake mode EXCLUSIVELY during Christmas? Why don't we bake all year long?

We should.

But, like so many people, I sat down and made my Christmas bake list and I thought I would share it with you. Anything in particular you'd like to see? Tell me in the comments.

Hanukah starts on Sunday! Christmas is only nine days away...

Where did December go? (If you're with me in Alaska, December went under over 40 inches of snow and seven snow days 🤪)

We make so, so many cookies at Christmas time. Cookies for our neighbors, our friends and family, teachers, and ourselves... But let's be honest, almond or vanilla-flavored sugar cookies can get a little more of the same. So good, buttery and crumbly and delicious... But also the same.

🍋So I found a recipe that uses lemonade concentrate to jazz up the sugar cookie. You'll find the recipe here - by the end of the year, GLV will be live, and you can find all our great recipes online anytime! 🍋

Hint: If you add just a TINY bit of cinnamon to the dough or the topping, you'll get an AMAZING spice to this deliciously tart cookie!

Cinnamon Rolls are such a luscious dessert... I mean breakfast! We do them for both breakfast and dessert - it really depends on when they are coming out of the oven, hot and gooey and ready to go! I get asked all the time how long they are going to take. Cinnamon rolls really are an easy bread to make that impresses a crowd. But they are a test in patience. Patience in kneading and patience in proving (AKA rising or doubling). After you prove your dough, and then fill and shape them into perfect wheels with that spicy sweet center, you really can't pop them into the oven. The rolling and shaping smothers a TON of air out of the dough. You need to give it time to rise again - generally between 20-40 minutes. You're looking for them to grow to not quite half again their original size. Remember they are going to grow more in your oven! Every time they grow, they get a little lighter, a little fluffier, and a little more perfect!

I've always loved to bake. Baking is just... it's just so fun.

So when I discovered the Great British Baking Show/Bake-Off, depending on your location, I knew I found my tribe.

Except, how do you get a recipe for something like an apple pie trifle - the recipe didn't exist a couple years ago... I had to make my own. It was delicious, didn't make it back in the fridge for later. And how do you get a Hollywood Handshake using a recipe you found off the web? (If you're a baker, and don't want a Hollywood Handshake, you're kidding yourself! 🤣🤣)

So I taught myself how to make my own recipes. I listened and learned from other bakers, and develoepd a foundation of how to do just about anything (and how to take my flavors to the next level).

So, if you also aspire to a Hollywood Handshake, I'll gladly help you get there!

Do you ever run out of fridge space during the holidays? ☃️

There's an overwhelming number of leftovers, extra ingredients to chill, strawberries that are out of season...
Okay, maybe that last one is just us. My kids love strawberries...🍓 We are more reliable to have strawberries than milk. 😅

I never have enough fridge space for the trays of cookies and truffles and chilling custards. But, I have something going for me.... I live in AK. And you know what we have in Alaska? The outside is basically a giant freezer! 🥶

Okay, okay, this is a hack that I only use during Thanksgiving for chilling drinks or packaged foods. In fact, most Alaskans have garage fridges and chest freezers. (But I've also heard that ya'll in the lower 48 ALSO have garage fridges 😂). If you have a garage fridge, will you tell me what you keep in there? Currently, I have two turkeys and a ton of butter - baking season is upon us! Now the only question is, what am I going to jenga in there this weekend?

I'm thinking sugar cookies. Let's get in the holiday spirit!
