Hello Clatsop County Residents!
Jonathan and Alex would like your input, and support (if you are inclined that direction) in their current quest to have seating in The Nest. Due to the time our building spent on the market it lapsed back to county rules and regulations about parking spaces on premise required per square footage. The county has since made some changes to their laws and regulations, making it possible for us to apply for a new conditional land use permit. We also have acquired a full on premise liquor license (before we had a limit off premise license) as we are hoping to offer service two nights a week, with more of our fun pop ups featuring other local (or not so local chefs) and the ability to enjoy a drink with meals. We have come up against some extreme negativity, which seemed to be heavily rooted in a full lack of understanding in what we are actually proposing.
LAND USE PERMIT/PARKING
It has been brought to our attention that people think we are requesting to pave over the park, block the bus stop/drive path, remove parking from boat ramp patrons. Absolutely none of if this is true, we are simply asking that we be allowed to continue use of the parking spaces (already at the park) in the exact same way they are being used now and that we have used for the last 6 years. We are simply "showing" the county that there is available parking across from our business, and that it has been used to great affect this entire time. We would like to offer seating so people may sit and enjoy their food inside if they desire. The park is wonderful to sit and eat your food, but perhaps you wish to use or internet, perhaps it is raining and you would like some time to relax, or perhaps the picnic tables are all full. We are simply wishing to offer the community a place to feel safe and comfortable.
LIQUOR LICENSE
We have had many patrons over the last 6 years lament that we did not have the ability to serve alcohol. The previous seating problems prevented that being an option. People have expressed to us that they would appreciate a place closer to home that was not the country club to enjoy a glass of wine or beer while having a snack and chatting with a friend. We have no desire to become a "bar", we will not be offering a wide range of liquor, shots or cheap drinks. Our goal is to offer carefully thought out cocktails to accompany delicious menus created with the local and seasonal bounty we have at our fingertips. As with the seating, we simply wish to offer our regulars, newcomers, neighbors (and slightly further neighbors) a place to feel comfortable, safe and well fed.
We have attached the link below, where you can send your comments to the county.
