I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am for the two years I had at the Berkley Farmers Market. 🐝
When I became a vendor, there were no contracts then, just people coming together with their passions, hard work, and vision to build something for the Berkley community. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was real. It took a lot of work every week and months before prepping for the season. Local farmers, artisans, bakers, business owners, and neighbors showed up and gave it everything. ❤️
This year, we listened to the community and extended the hours from 10 to 6 so more people could stop by and support their favorite vendors, food trucks and live music. Berkley has always gone above and beyond for its small businesses, which is why this last-minute cancellation hits so hard. If it really came down to just contracts, why wasn’t that addressed months ago? Not two weeks before opening day? None of this happened when Mike was involved with the Market. He understood the value and saw the vision of what we were building and helped support its growth. I’m not sure what changed under the new management, but the lack of communication and planning has left vendors like me without a market and a community without something they were looking forward to for the summer.
To everyone who came out week after week, thank you so much. 🙏
I am so grateful for each and everyone of you.
If you’ve ever enjoyed my lemon pound cake or one of my mocktails, please don’t hesitate to place a private order. Because of the timing of this cancellation, it’s now too late to apply and get into any other markets this season, so I won’t be popping up anywhere else this summer. ☹️ It really saddens me to think this may be the end of my time in Berkley, but I’m incredibly proud of what we built while we had the chance. Thank you to all of my market sisters and friends, we had a great time together while it lasted. Good luck! Angie 🫶
At this time, the Berkley Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has, unfortunately, decided that it’s in the best interest of the future of the market to put it on hold this summer as we work to ensure a thorough and well thought out long-term plan for its success. Although the DDA passed a budget that included funds allocated for the market this year, it has become increasingly clear that the market should not operate without signed contracts between all parties involved. Therefore, measures will be taken this summer as we evaluate how best to grow and improve the market experience for both vendors and visitors in the future.
