Today, 2/22/2024, at around 5:45 pm, my dad, Ray Boutwell , Seaman 3rd Class WWII Vet, exchanged time for eternity.
He lived a long and full life, 97 years, 8 months and 21 days. His accomplishments were many.
Arrangements will be announced.when finalized.

Ray is keeping busy!

Words from one of JeffSTAT 4’s pilots.

Please allow me to introduce you to Ray Boutwell. Ray is a 97-year-old WWII veteran that I ran into on my drive to work in Woodbine, NJ, this evening. Ray was visiting the airfield with his son and daughter-in-law when I drove past them, so I offered to show them our helicopter.

As it turns out, Ray was a cook in the Navy during the war and actually served at Woodbine when it was a navy base. He shared stories about how the fighter pilots would fly down from Pomona (currently the Atlantic City airport) to practice rocket attacks and carrier landings at Woodbine, how those same pilots preferred his cooking at Woodbine over their home base's, and how he would hitchhike to roller skate with his girlfriend in Mays Landing--making it back to base just in time to start work the next morning. Ray mentioned that he had four other brothers who were overseas during WWII. He received orders to deploy on a ship as well but had those orders cancelled. He suspects they were cancelled after what happened to the Sullivan Brothers.

Ray's mind seemed very sharp and he was very appreciative to get a closer look at the airfield. But we were the lucky ones to have met Ray. We helped a veteran to reminisce about a positive time in his life and got to listen to a firsthand account of history that we're all close to losing forever.

Before Ray made the decision to close the bakery, Ray had an interview with Veteran's Voices back in August. A BIG thank you to everyone for supporting Ray these past 2 years! A bittersweet day. We love you all!
Ray had a blast meeting everyone and loved serving the community.
If anyone wants any ingredients or bakery supplies, ie. bags, boxes, utensils etc message for an appointment.

Ray will be open tomorrow 10-5p.
We have small cannolis, chocolate chip cookies, meringue, and no icing cakes to be iced at home. Large cans of pumpkin to make your own pies and other ingredients.
Also, small kitchen equipment and assorted items!
See you tomorrow for the last day we are open!

From our first customers to our last, Ray has truly had a blast!!
