To create half-moon shapes in icing:

1. Flood your cookie with the lighter icing.
2. While the base icing is still wet, pipe dots of darker flood-consistency icing onto the cookie.
3. Using the original lighter icing, pipe a dot over one half of each dark dot. Place it slightly off-center so the other half stays visible.

The lighter icing will settle into the darker dot, leaving a dark half-moon shape. Work while all the icing is still wet so the colors settle into a smooth, flat surface.
