I remember when I was 4 or 5 years old, I wanted to own a pie & cake shop. I guess I didn't know way back then that it was called a bakery. I just knew that I wanted to make pretty cakes and pies! Growing up in the country, everything was homemade. My mama was the best cook in the world. I know other people say that but in my case, it was true! She was known as the Biscuit Queen! Nobody could make biscuits like her! Believe me, we have all tried! I graduated when I was 16 and started working full time and forgot about opening my pie & cake shop. I started working in a pharmacy and was a pharmacy technician for most of my adult life. I never lost my love for cooking and I baked a lot! I would take a cake recipe and make cupcakes because they were easier to share. About 3 or 4 years ago mama told me I should stop giving all those baked goods away and I should start selling them. I loved the idea but since I was in my fifties, I thought I was too old to change professions. On May 17, 2016, the world as we knew it changed forever! My beautiful mama passed away. When you lose the person that loved you more than anybody else in the world, that changes your perspective! Fast forward to September 2016. My daddy, my husband & I flew to Idaho to visit our friends. We took a 2 week road trip and during the second week, my daddy told me if I still wanted to open a shop he would give me all of the equipment I would need! He has been in the restaurant supply business for 60 years. He's 83 and owns his own business! After many dicussions and lots of prayer, we decided to step out on faith and go for my dream! We started looking for the right place and in January we ended up at the first building we looked at. We wanted to open by Mama's birthday (June 5th) but we weren't quite ready. My niece, Crystal who worked with me at the pharmacy and my older sister, Nancy who had recently retired opened "the shop" on what would have been our parents 62nd anniversay, July 19, 2017. We know she would be so proud of us! Hanging on one wall is a large photo of mama rolling biscuits so she's always cooking with us! She had many names...to her children she was mama, to her grandkids she was grandma, to her great-grands she was GG and to her husband she was Joyce! So there was never a debate about the name of ReJoyce Bake Shop & Cafe.
