A little writing update 📝✨

I’m still writing while also getting back into the swing of everyday life. My original series is currently on pause because the dreaded writer’s block decided to humble me lol.

BUT… a new book has entered my stratosphere. 👀

I’ve been quietly working on it, and honestly, this one feels different. It’s much more of a personal project, and I feel like my heart is really in it. It feels less like something I’m supposed to write and more like something I genuinely need to write.

Definitely a passion project.

I’m not sure where it’s going yet, but I’m enjoying the process and letting myself create without putting so much pressure on it. Sometimes the story you weren’t planning to write ends up being the one that means the most to you. ✍🏽✨

A few of the places I’ve written this past week. ✍️📚

One thing I’ve learned recently is that writing looks different every single day. Some days I don’t write at all, but my brain is busy connecting ideas and solving plot problems in the background. Other days I sit in front of my computer for hours and somehow get absolutely nothing on the page.

And then there are days like most of this week, where I get a random burst of energy in the middle of the night and stay up way later than I should, rethinking the origin of my entire story.

Right now, I’m writing the prequel to my first book so I can go back and edit the first book with the correct history and lore in place. It’s honestly driving me a little insane, but it’s also helping me understand my world and characters in ways I never expected.

Since coming home from abroad, writing has made me laugh, cry, and feel a lot of things. It’s become a way to process experiences, hold onto memories, and create something meaningful from all of it.

I can’t wait to share this story with everyone someday, and I hope you end up loving it as much as I do.

Cover concepts, book titles, character introductions, and more fun behind-the-scenes content are coming soon, so stay tuned. ✨

Today an author said something that stuck with me:

“Getting your big break is a little like getting struck by lightning. There’s luck involved. But if you’re out dancing in the rain, your chances of getting struck are a lot higher.”

A reminder to keep writing, keep creating, and keep putting yourself out there. You can’t get lucky if you never leave the house.

Today I attended the Pittsburgh Book Festival ( Pgh Book Fest ) and had the BEST time. 📚✨

As someone who has always loved both reading and writing, it was really special to spend the day surrounded by so many people who share that same passion. Sometimes when you’re writing, it can feel like you’re off in your own little world, so being in a space filled with readers, writers, and book lovers was a nice reminder that there are so many people out there who get it.

I got to attend Flirting with Romantasy, Know Your Fantasy Lore, and Wings and Whimsy: Cozy Fantasy, along with hearing from some amazing authors, including .benitz & more. Every panel gave me something new to think about, whether it was worldbuilding, fantasy tropes, publishing, or simply why we love stories in the first place.

I honestly went for the vibes, the books, and the chance to be around other people who love storytelling as much as I do. I left with an active mind, new ideas, and feeling more excited to write than I have in a long time.

As someone currently working toward finishing & publishing my debut novel, days like today remind me why I started writing in the first place. 🖤

Thank you to Pittsburgh Book Festival for putting together such a wonderful event. I already can’t wait to come back next year.

✨ Meet the Author ✨

Hi, I’m Kayla, a writer, traveler, college student, and lifelong lover of storytelling. I’ve been writing since I was young, but finishing the first draft of my debut novel while studying abroad truly changed everything for me. Experiencing new places, emotions, and perspectives opened my mind creatively in ways I never expected, especially during both the hard and beautiful moments of life.

I’m currently working on my debut dark academia fantasy novel inspired by mythology, ancient curses, museums, forgotten history, and dangerous curiosity. 🖤

On this page, I’ll be sharing:
✍️ Writing updates and behind-the-scenes progress
📚 Book announcements and sneak peeks
🕯️ Character lore, aesthetics, and inspirations
☕ Relatable writer moments
🌍 Travel inspiration and creativity
🖤 The journey toward publishing my first book

Thank you for being here early and supporting this dream before the book is even out. I’m so excited to share more of this journey with you all.

Debut novel coming soon…
