It started with Heidi, the owner of Antsy Nancy suggesting a Dolly Parton tribute class, and somehow that turned into lots of pink, glitter, and these six sweet little cookies. 💖✨🤠

From sketching the designs in Procreate to bringing them to life in icing, this class was such a fun one to create. But my favorite part was getting back to teaching and spending time decorating, laughing, and connecting with everyone who came out.

After nearly four years away from teaching, being back in that space felt so good. 🥹 A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us and to Antsy Nancy for welcoming us into your beautiful studio and helping bring this class to life!

Celebrating Constitution Week with a sweet bite of history! 📜✨

🖋️ The Ink & Quill: The original document wasn’t actually written by a politician. It was hand-lettered by an assistant penman named Jacob Shallus. He was paid $30 (about $1,000 today) to frantically copy all 4 parchment pages in just a weekend using iron gall ink and a goose quill!

🪑 George Washington’s Chair: As President of the Constitutional Convention, Washington sat at the front of the room in a carved wooden chair. At the end of the convention, Benjamin Franklin looked at the sun carved on Washington’s chair and famously remarked that he now knew it was a “rising, not a setting sun” for America.

⚖️ The Scales of Justice: Did you know the Constitution only specifically created one federal court? Article III established the Supreme Court, leaving it up to the very first Congress to build out the rest of the federal judicial system we know today.

🧨 The Fireworks: While fireworks are famously tied to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution gave us a reason to keep the party going! When the Constitution was officially ratified, cities across the young nation celebrated with massive parades and spectacular fireworks displays to welcome the new government.

🇺🇸 The Betsy Ross Flag: The Constitution adopted the Flag Act of 1777 rather than making a new flag. Its famous circle of stars represents the absolute equality of the states under the new law of the land.

🎭The Hamilton Twist: Alexander Hamilton was the only delegate from the entire state of New York to sign the U.S. Constitution! The other NY delegates walked out in protest of a strong central government, but Hamilton stayed to make history.

Well…we won Best Cookie in Tucson!

The Bougie Baker has been around since 2018, but reopening in January and starting over in a new community has been a rollercoaster. This year has brought so many beautiful custom orders, very late nights, weekends spent baking, and more than a little rejection and struggle as I worked to get my business known locally.

So to have this community recognize The Bougie Baker as the 2026 Arizona Daily Star Readers’ Choice Best Cookie in Tucson honestly means more than I can put into words.

And I want to say this part because it matters most to me: Tucson is FULL of incredibly talented bakers and cookiers. There are so many people making beautiful, delicious things and building businesses they pour their hearts into. My being awarded this does not make their work any less talented, creative, or deserving. I’m genuinely grateful to be among them.

A huge shoutout to Andrea of who was a finalist and is ridiculously talented and to and who both made the Top 10. It was an honor to be in that group.

Though not on this year’s list, they’re incredibly talented bakers, creative business owners, and absolute forces.

And then there are the friendships I didn’t expect to make along the way.

Hailey of and Grace of - getting to attend the award banquet with you and your families was one of my favorite parts of this whole experience. There’s something really special about becoming friends with people who understand what it means to dream up a little business, build it from the ground up, and somehow keep making it happen while balancing everything else life throws at you.

This little business has asked a lot of me this year. So today, while working through orders that I hope bring all of you so much joy, I’m also taking time to celebrate and be filled with complete happiness.
