Happy Birthday boss man — the man who somehow stays calm, keeps everything running, and makes it look way easier than it actually is (which feels a little unfair, honestly 😅).
From the fire service to running a business, he sets the bar high and casually expects the rest of us to just… keep up. No pressure or anything.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of retired Fire Engineer Chris Bell, who bravely fought-and ultimately lost-his battle with occupational cancer, an illness directly linked to the hazards faced by firefighters throughout their careers.

Firefighters are regularly exposed to smoke, toxic chemicals, and carcinogens while protecting their communities. Despite the safety measures in place, these exposures can lead to serious long-term health conditions.
Chris faced this reality with the same courage and strength he showed throughout his career.

Chris began his journey with the Fairfield Fire Department as a Reserve Firefighter in early 2003. From the very beginning, he demonstrated a deep commitment to the community and to the fire service. In October 2007, he was hired as a full-time Firefighter, and through years of dedication, hard work, and steady leadership, he earned his promotion to Fire Engineer in April 2013.

In addition to his daily responsibilities, Chris proudly served as a member of our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team, where he brought exceptional skill, calm under pressure, and a genuine heart for helping others during the most challenging emergencies. His service made a lasting difference both within our department and in the broader community.

Chris retired on November 10, 2024, after more than 20 years of faithful service to the City of Fairfield. His legacy is one of professionalism, integrity, and kindness. He was respected by his peers, loved by many, and dedicated to protecting the community he cared for so deeply.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bell family, his friends, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Chris’ memory will forever remain part of the Fairfield Fire Department family.

Rest in peace, Engineer Bell. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the countless lives you touched.

We took every leftover piece of candy we could get our hands on and packed it into one wild cookie — this is what happens when Trick-or-Treat meets overtime. 🍬🍫🍪
