🥖 Winter’s the Perfect Time to Start a Sourdough Starter! ❄️
Thinking about baking your own sourdough this winter? It all starts with one thing—a starter!
Here’s how to make your own from scratch:
1️⃣ Mix: Combine equal parts all purpose, unbleached flour and spring water (start with 1/2 cup each) in a clean jar.
2️⃣ Stir daily: Each day, discard half and feed it again with 1/2 cup fresh flour and 1/4 water.
3️⃣ Keep it cozy: Your starter likes warmth! Store it in a warm spot—like near the stove or wrapped in a towel on the counter.
4️⃣ Wait for the bubbles: After about 5–7 days, you’ll have a bubbly, tangy, living starter ready to bake with!
Fun fact: Dusty, our beloved starter, was born around this time last year! 🍼🥖 He’s been bubbling away ever since—and proof that a little warmth and care go a long way.
There’s something magical about nurturing your own sourdough through the cold months—it’s like having a bit of warmth (and deliciousness) growing right on your counter.
