I've enjoyed cooking as a hobby of mine for about 15 years. This hobby led me through the San Diego Culinary Institute and through a few different commercial kitchens along the way. It's always been a hobby, but a hobby right on the verge of something more. Even with my current career (couldn't be further from the food industry), I still spend way too many brain cells rolling around possible resta
urant ideas and locations in the back of my head. I’m constantly thinking about menu items and layout, what would work, and what wouldn’t work. But it all comes back to why this hobby became a hobby in the first place. It starts with a love for the kitchen, where combining a few ingredients together and adding a little heat leads to bringing a whole new creation to the table. It leads to being able to bring something to share with others that is always greater than the sum of its parts. The best picture of this, in my mind, is sourdough bread. I first started baking sourdough in March of 2020 and haven't stopped since. In its basest composition, it's literally three ingredients. On top of that, three ingredients which, in themselves, are really not that exciting: flour, water and salt. When combined and baked, they turn into a crusty, delicious, sustaining loaf of bread that has a place on the table and is welcomed for any meal. Food, and more specifically bread, is a way that I can serve others and a way that I can change someone's day with one meal. The quote is true that, “All sorrows are less with bread.” This page is going to be a way for me to get bread (among other things) in the hands of more people. This works two-fold in that I get to bake more and share more with others, while at the same time not overwhelming my family, who have up to this point, been my favorite test subjects and food critics. Everything I make will have sourdough included, from breads to desserts. This is still a hobby, and I'm still learning. So batches will be small, prices will be kept low, and there will be plenty of giveaways along the way! Follow my page to stay current on what The Fairville Baker is up to next!
