🌾 Before You Buy Sourdough… Here’s What to Look For! 🌾
Not all sourdough is created equal, and if you’re paying artisan bread prices, you deserve artisan bread.
🥖 Look for good shape and structure.
A properly fermented loaf rises upward and holds its shape rather than spreading out flat.
🥖 Check the weight.
A great loaf should feel substantial but not overly dense. Inclusion loaves with cheese, jalapeños, chocolate chips, and other add-ins will naturally be heavier.
🥖 Take a peek inside.
The crumb should be soft and airy—not gummy or doughy. Every loaf is unique, but a well-fermented loaf should have a light, enjoyable texture.
🥖 Ask about the process.
This is where the magic happens. At Three Little Loaves, every loaf is naturally fermented and then cold-proofed in the refrigerator for a minimum of 12–18 hours, often up to 24 hours before baking. This slow process develops the flavor, texture, and character that make authentic sourdough so special.
🥖 How it’s baked matters, too.
Every loaf is baked in cast iron, creating the ideal environment for steam and heat. The result is beautiful oven spring, a crisp crust, and the artisan finish sourdough lovers know and love.
❤️ From mixing the dough to pulling the finished loaf from the oven, each loaf takes more than a full day to create. Good sourdough simply can’t be rushed.
At Three Little Loaves, every loaf is handcrafted, naturally fermented, and baked fresh in small batches right here in Troy.
