By now, most of you are probably familiar with the Captain Huck Pepper Jelly Sourdough launch.

What started as a single loaf and a simple idea has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined.

Today, the Captain Fleet includes:

Each loaf has its own flavor, personality, and story, but they all share the same commitment to small-batch artisan baking, quality ingredients, and homemade tradition.

Seeing the entire fleet together for the first time makes me incredibly proud of how far Nonna Lisa Bakery has come.

What many people don’t know is that the original idea of incorporating pepper jelly into a sourdough loaf wasn’t mine at all—it was Captain Huck’s. One creative suggestion sparked an idea, and before we knew it, that single loaf had grown into an entire fleet.

A very special thank you to Captain Huck—my husband, best friend, biggest supporter, toughest critic, confidant, and partner in all things bakery. His creativity, encouragement, and knack for marketing helped turn a loaf into a brand, and I am endlessly grateful for his collaboration, support, and belief in this dream. ❤️

A lot of people have been asking where the Captain Huck idea came from, and honestly, it started much closer to home than people realize.

I’ve called my husband “Huckleberry” for years — or Huck for short. ⚓

He’s always loved open water fishing, the kind where you head out onto massive lakes that feel more like the ocean than a shoreline. Somewhere along the way, between the fishing stories, the adventurous spirit, and one very creative pepper jelly sourdough idea he brought to the table… Captain Huck was born.

What started as a fun late-night idea between the two of us slowly became something we couldn’t stop building.

We didn’t want to create just another flavored sourdough.

We wanted to create an experience.

⚓ The first voyage begins with Mango Pepper Jelly Sourdough.

Sweet at first…
followed by just enough warmth to keep things interesting. 🔥

The Captain Huck line is built around seasonal voyages — small batch sourdough creations paired with bold flavors, sweet heat, and a little adventure.

Watching people experience it during our tasting this week was honestly incredible:
the conversations,
the reactions,
the surprise,
and the curiosity that followed.

That’s when we realized Captain Huck had become exactly what we hoped it would be.

Nonna Lisa Bakery was never meant to be a business—it began with love.

After losing my mother-in-law, who was known for her incredible baking, something was missing in our family. My father-in-law always loved his sweets, and no one was there to make them anymore. So I stepped in—not as a baker, but simply to bring a little comfort back into his life.

At the time, I didn’t even enjoy baking. I was always more of a cook. But with encouragement from my husband and father-in-law, what started small slowly grew into something more, and Tummy Time Treats was born.

Several years later, I discovered sourdough.

What started as curiosity quickly turned into something I fell in love with—but it didn’t come easy. My first loaf was flat as a pancake. It took months of learning, practicing, and failing before I finally felt confident enough to share it with anyone.

About nine months later, after a coworker encouraged me to bring some in, I shared two loaves at work—and that moment changed everything.

The response was overwhelming. With their encouragement, Nonna Lisa Bakery began to take shape.

Today, I bake small-batch artisan sourdough loaves each week, along with select desserts for loyal customers who have been part of this journey. Everything is made with care, intention, and a deep love for the process.

This isn’t a large operation—it’s personal.
It’s about feeding people, honoring tradition, and growing something that still feels like love—not pressure.
