Chocolate...what a rough and bitter year it has been.
There have been all sorts of issues from plant disease outbreaks and poor weather, to supply chain complications that have made the price of cocoa products soar to new records. A bag of quality dark chocolate that used to cost me $40 has DOUBLED in price to $80.
Luckily, I purchased my chocolate in bulk before the price hike, so I had enough stock to keep my regular prices through the year. As my ingredient inventory runs out, I've been keeping a steady watch on the cocoa/chocolate market, hoping that prices will start to stabilize and return closer to normal. However, it looks like prices for chocolate are estimated to stay at record highs far into 2026. So unfortunately, I have to raise my prices, as profit margins are already tight and I just can't absorb the new cost of chocolate and stay in business.
I fully realize that not everyone can afford these prices. Assorted chocolates are definitely a luxury, and small batch crafted goods are far more expensive than what the big companies can mass produce on the factory floors. I'm ready to accept that my small business might not be able to survive the effects of the current economy and cocoa shortage.
But, maybe, just maybe, there will still be enough people in the community that are interested in small batch decadent treats. If you are one of those people, please keep an eye out for my holiday advertisements coming out soon! And if you're not one of those people, I completely understand, and sincerely wish you a wonderful holiday season ❤️
