Rodney V. “Rocky” Sickmann joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating high school in 1976. In 1979, he was serving as a Marine Security Guard at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran when Iranian revolutionaries stormed the embassy.

Sickmann was held hostage for 444 days, including periods of solitary confinement following the failed rescue attempt, Operation Eagle Claw. He and the other American hostages were finally released on January 21, 1981.

After his release, Sickmann was honorably discharged and received multiple military decorations, including the Prisoner of War Medal. He later dedicated his career to service, including work with Folds of Honor.

We honor his service, sacrifice, and perseverance. 🇺🇸
