This is a not-to-miss performance from a musician whose energy and intensity is evident in every chord. A true, old-school singer-songwriter with an Irish sense of humor and history that fits just right in the Appalachian Mountains, Walshe is the kind of deep delight that stays with you long after the show is over. 🌠🌠🌠

Born & raised on the southeast coast of Dublin, Ireland, Dylan Walshe went on to hone his craft as a solo acoustic performer in London, then Europe, before eventually moving to Nashville, Tennessee. Currently residing in the southern highlands of Black Mountain, North Carolina, Dylan has been billed alongside many pioneers in music, as well as headlining tours around much of the US, Europe & the UK, while also touring internationally as support to artists such as Flogging Molly, The White Buffalo, Billy Bob Thornton & Avatar. All Manner Of Ways, Dylan’s album of original compositions, features James Fearnley (The Pogues), Andy Gibson (Hank III), Micah Hulscher (Emmylou Harris) & John Mailander (Billy Strings).

We're gearing up for this year's Local Artists' Pop Ups, hosted upstairs on the 3rd Saturday of every month (and 4th of July, just for fun 🎆🌟🇺🇸). These markets feature beautiful, carefully hand-crafted goods from Todd and other tiny high country hamlets and are a great place to find one-of-a-kind gifts for someone special (or yourself—you're special too 😉).

And, your purchase directly supports your local community in 2 ways: First, through our local artisans and, second, through the 10% of proceeds from every market that are donated to rotating local nonprofits.

Magical Monday announcement (ok, it's not Monday yet, but I couldn't wait ;) We are so honored to be part of Pat Kincheloe Morrison's "Magic Portals and Doorways" projected, supported by the Ashe County Arts Council! She made the Mercantile fairies the most stunning portal, decorated with a fox 🦊 (our spirit animal), a muffin 🧁 (can't take a hike without one), and some musical notes 🎶 to celebrate the incredible musicians who share their love for music and dance here. I think the sheer joy is evident on my face here, but if it's not, let me acknowledge that pure childlike delight is hard to come by for me, and that is what this magical door and everything it represents bring me, so thank you, Pat, for seeing what some of us needed and making it ♥️💫🌠

A few notes for those who may be wondering:
1. In addition to creating magic portals and doorways for small businesses and other organizations around Ashe County, Pat's project includes working with children at Blue Ridge Elementary, as well as adults and teenage students in her classes at to make their own magic portals to bring wonder and joy into their own homes. We can all continue to support this important project through donations to Doe Ridge.
2. "Todd" originated as a surname in Northern Middle English (probably Scottish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_(surname)) that meant 'fox' (hence why the fox in The Fox and the Hound is named Todd :). Todd, NC was previously known as Elk X Roads (Elk Crossroads) and was renamed after a person whose surname was Todd. Thus, we decided a fox would make an appropriate spirit animal for The Todd Mercantile (and if you come find our magic portal, you'll discover that the fox is now carefully guarding/guiding journeyers across the pond and beyond!)

The official Todd Mercantile event schedule for JUNE is live (I know, a few days late, but existing, which we're counting as a win 😎 ). Here's what we've got lined up (plus, of course, Todd Community Preservation Organization's Music in the Park starts this month, Mill Camp Wines & Ciders always has a great line up, and Fork Station is gearing up for summer fun, so there's always something to do in Todd):

June 6: Rocky's Groovy Poets Party, @ 11am, FREE: Celebrate wonder and whimsy with poetry and prose performances by local writers and playful door prizes like yo-yos & kazoos. 🌼🌈🌼🌈🌼🌈

June 12: Todd CommUnity Dance, potluck @ 6pm, music & dancing @ 7pm, $5: Live, local bluegrass music and square dancing. Fun for the whole family! No partner, experience, or fancy shoes needed! 🎻🎶👏

June 19: Open Mic Night, @ 7pm, FREE: Enjoy some of the best live local talent around, hosted by our consummate MC, George, who likes to close out the night with sing-along classics that the whole crowd can sing! 🎤👏🎸🎹

June 20: Local Pop Up Art Market, 10am - 5pm: Featuring local artists from Todd and beyond, our local artists pop-ups are a great way to support local makers and nonprofits (10% of each market is donated on a rotating basis). June 24: Harsh Noise Show, , $10: With performances by Cevra, Being, and Psychic Sense Organs, this promises to be a new sound experience for our 116-year-old building. ☄🔊🤖🌬

Big weekend coming up at the Mercantile. Friday (tomorrow) night is the Todd CommUnity Dance (potluck at 6, family dance at 7, open square dance 8 to whenever y'all shut it down). Saturday is our local artists' market, featuring a wide variety of local arts and crafts. A great opportunity to get started on your Christmas shopping and support local makers!
