refer to it lovingly as my “shoe box bakery,” but that doesn’t mean we skimp on anything! Hey, it’s not the size of the shoe -
It’s how you use it, right? Regardless, if you believe size does matters, our cookies are HUGE! I’m talking like the size of your palm! We sell them individual at $2-$3 each inside our delicious cookie case, and that also includes all the bars and brownies we sell, too! HBG is also a little well known for thumbprint cookies � It’s a Taylorville tradition that we’ve perfected, not to brag � Please, come try one and tell us we are wrong. You won’t be able to, what with a mouth full of tasty crumbs and all. We are open most every weekend (Friday and Saturday only) . We do orders all week (excluding Sunday and mondays) if you can’t make it on the weekends. If you want to place an order, please send us a message...because AINT no body answering the phone - we too busy pulling cookies from the oven and busting diets. Despite Mother Nature going off her meds and acting like a complete sc**zo Karen, it is indeed officially SEPTEMBER, the beginning of the “ber” months that me and my other basic white girl b’s like to treat like a non stop 4 month holiday! 🍂🧡🎃🌻🍄🌕🦫🫎🍄‍🟫🐿️🦤🦦🍪

Pumpkin patch’ing and selfie’ing it, holding a PSL in one hand, feigning interest in football and dumping anything in a crockpot is where we shine!

Second only to those September - December non negotiables is HBG’s fall cookie line up every weekend! Debuting this tomorrow, FRIDAY, make sure to stop in and kick off your autumn with HBG’s best fall themed cookies and treats!!

9.5 years.

Today marks our 9.5 year anniversary and like what adult who pays their own bills celebrates 1/2’s anything (except adorable moms like Katie White who rocks that for her kids 😘)?

Apparently I do. Shamelessly so. But in being the over sharer I am (HBG is a safe space, just ask all my customers who come in for cookies but leave 30 mins later after we deep dived every emotion they had and I had that week) I had to divulge to you that this is such a milestone to me.

I remember this picture below like it was yesterday, taken on our 6 month anniversary and I truly thought, wow, I can’t believe I’ve been opened for 6 months 😂 I was very happy because I didn’t think we’d get that far! I whole heartedly did not have any idea how this thing was going to work out. My hubby and I were of the mindset that we will just take this week by week and when it ends, it ends and it was fun and no regrets! So this picture was like wow, the bakery is 1/2 way to a year! 😲 This is crazy!

I honestly held my breath every weekend through 5 years, wondering when the bottom was going to drop out like it always did on me. I quit everything I started; cross country my senior year of which I was very competitive in; didn’t pursue basketball in college when I could/should have, was also very competitive in; went to 3 different colleges to get my undergrad degree, started dozens of books that never saw past the first chapter and so on.

I just knew this wasn’t going to stick for one reason or another. Then babies came, but I went back to HBG. Then husband’s work schedule changed- ALOT, but we made HBG work. A pandemic hit- WTF, somehow we managed to keep the ship afloat through weird and wonky ways. Then appliances broke down and employees went to college or got married or just naturally moved on, but I didn’t make excuses and kept chugging away at the bakery, which by my pattern, I didn’t think would be the case. Any excuses I ever see to call it quits and walk away, I grab from the air like it’s raining money.

But I wasn’t doing it this time.

After the 7’sh year mark I set my sights on year 🔟 . I have been obsessing about it ever since and tell people I’ve been open for ten years already. It’s just so close.

Somehow the thing I thought was going to eventually break my heart has turned into one of my proudest achievements and by none other than the grace of God and my supportive husband and ALL OF YOU, we are inching up on something kinda cool- an independent bakery opened for 10 years in Taylorville.

Have we passed the freshman year litmus test? I kinda feel like a sophomore now with my permit in the world of entrepreneurship. I have so many ideas and goals and more milestones to reach w HBG. We are only beginning and I’m so glad you all are in the passenger seat w me!

With a truckload of kids and cookies in the back seat, we are hitting the highway, cookie monsters, putting the top down and making this thing purr!

To anyone who thinks I don’t make their favorite cookies often enough, know this:

These cinnamon streusel cookies are my second all time favorite and I haven’t made them since 2023!!! 🙈

So yea it’s not personal, it’s just my sugar dosed brain 🧠 is all 🥲

Anywho- These coffee cake - esque cookies are like biting into Christmas morning! So cinnamon- y and crispy and sweet - it’s like the topping of a Dutch apple pie without the annoying soggy pie part!! 🥧
