I understand times are rough right now financially for everyone. I’ve had a handful of people tell me my pricing is outrageous, so let me break down for you how much I actually make off of my business so maybe some of you can better understand.
Cost of ingredients
Flour- $1.32 for 32oz
Sugar- $5.92 for 56oz
Butter- $3.96 for 4 sticks
Eggs- $4.53 for 12 eggs
Vanilla- $6.97 for 2oz
Milk-$3.92 a gallon
This is ingredients for a basic vanilla sponge cake. No frosting. No filling. No decorative toppers. No modeling chocolate sculptures. No fondant. No time for my work. Just the sponge cake. When doing the math it cost me averagely 20 dollars for only the sponge cake for a 8in round cake.
I could go more into the math of it all but I digress. I understand custom cakes are not in everyone’s budget and that is okay! Be gracious with your small business owners, majority of us make little to nothing for our hard work, time, and effort to please our customers.
